Review: Worth Fighting For - Laura Kaye

Getting in deep has never felt this good...

Commercial diving instructor Tara Hunter nearly lost everything in an accident that saw her medically discharged from the navy. With the help of the Warrior Fight Club, she’s fought hard to overcome her fears and get back in the water where she’s always felt most at home. At work, she’s tough, serious, and doesn’t tolerate distractions. Which is why finding her gorgeous one-night stand on her new dive team is such a problem.

Former navy deep-sea diver Jesse Anderson just can’t seem to stop making mistakes—the latest being the hot-as-hell night he’d spent with his new partner. This job is his second chance, and Jesse knows he shouldn’t mix business with pleasure. But spending every day with Tara’s smart mouth and sexy curves makes her so damn hard to resist.

Joining a wounded warrior MMA training program seems like the perfect way to blow off steam—until Jesse finds that Tara belongs too. Now they’re getting in deep and taking each other down day and night, and even though it breaks all the rules, their inescapable attraction might just be the only thing truly worth fighting for.

Review:
Tara and Jesse hit it off immediately when they meet in a bar, bonding over shared experiences and intense chemistry they're both more than willing to start a hot affair but it all goes horribly wrong when they realise they're going to be working together. Tara lost her career in the Navy, and very nearly her life, in a horrifying underwater accident and it's taken all her courage to get back into the water as part of a commercial diving team. It's still hard to keep her focus and she really can't afford any distractions when she's on the job so being attracted to her new dive partner is her worst nightmare.

Jesse has already made a lot of mistakes and this new job was supposed to give him a fresh start so he really shouldn't be mixing business with pleasure by getting involved with Tara no matter how much he wants to. Working side by side isn't going to be easy though, especially when they already have a connection that goes far beyond simple sex.

Worth Fighting For is a fabulous instalment of the Warrior Fight Club series, Laura Kaye always manages to create such realistic characters, people you can imagine hanging out with and being friends with and I loved both Tara and Jesse. They're both complex characters who are fighting their own demons but no matter how much they want to resist each other the spark is too bright to ignore. The romance between them was really sweet and tender as well as being totally hot and I just enjoyed every minute of their story. I also love the sense of camaraderie between the diving team and the members of the Warrior Fight Club, it was great to catch up with previous characters and get glimpses of future heroes and heroines too.

This story is part of the Kirsten Proby Big Sky Crossover Collection, I believe Jesse has made previous appearances in that series but I've not read it so I can't tell you which books he shows up in. I can confirm that I wasn't at all lost reading this as part of the Warrior Fight Club books though so you don't need to be familiar with the Big Sky books to enjoy this. Laura Kaye has been a favourite author of mine for a long time now and I'll be eagerly awaiting her next release.

Review: Fighting for What's His - Laura Kaye

This fight club has one rule: you must be a veteran...

Resisting her only makes him want her more...

Private investigator Billy Parrish is good at three things—fighting, investigating, and sex. MMA training with the other vets in the Warrior Fight Club keeps his war-borne demons at bay—mostly, and one night stands ensure no one gets too close. But then his best friend from the Army Rangers calls in a favor.

Shayna Curtis is new to town, fresh out of grad school, and full of hope for the future. With a new job starting in a month, she’s grateful when her brother arranges a place for her to stay while she apartment hunts. But she never expected her roommate to be so brooding. Or so sexy.

Billy can’t wait for Shay to leave—because the longer she’s there, the more he wants her in his bed. To stay. He can’t have her—that much he knows. But when fight club stops taking off the edge, Billy lets down his guard…and starts fighting for what’s his.

Review:
Laura Kaye always writes the most heart-warming romances and Fighting for What's His is no exception to that. Shayna and Billy's story was everything I'd hoped it would be and then some with brilliant chemistry right from the beginning but a slow build on the romance as they gradually got to know each other before giving into the lust they'd both been feeling from the moment they met.

Shayna is new in town and looking for a fresh start so her brother has arranged for her to stay with one of his best friends temporarily while she is settling into her new job and looks for a long term place to live. Billy is an ex Ranger who served with Shayna's brother Ryan before he was injured in an ambush and who now works as a private investigator. He's not really looking forward to having his friend's little sister cramping his style but he's not one to say no when a friend needs a favour. The last thing he is expecting is to find himself actually enjoying having someone to come home too and he definitely can't act on his growing feelings for fear of crossing a line his friendship might not recover from but those feelings are getting harder and harder to ignore.

I loved the slow build of this one and really enjoyed seeing Shayna and Billy getting to know each other and just enjoying spending time together. It was obvious from the beginning that they were attracted to each other but they both have reasons for being reluctant to act on it so this was definitely a slow build romance where the friendship comes first. They both have things in their pasts that they feel guilty for and that shared sense of survivors guilt really helps bond them together because they both understand exactly how the other person feels. They're a very sweet couple and there is very little in the way of drama between them which is something I really appreciate when I'm just looking for a hot and sexy story.

As much as I enjoyed them as a couple I also really liked seeing more of the other members of Warrior Fight Club and I'm looking forward to quite a few of their stories. There is obviously a sense of attraction between a couple of members but they're fighting it pretty hard right now so when they give in I'm pretty sure it'll be explosive. I'd also really love to see Mo get a book, he's been such a brilliant side character in both books in the series so far and I want to see him find his own happy ending. I'm always greedy for more books from Laura Kaye though so whoever is up next you can guarantee their book will be right at the top of my wish list!

Review: Fighting for Everything - Laura Kaye

Loving her is the biggest fight of his life...

Home from the Marines, Noah Cortez has a secret he doesn’t want his oldest friend, Kristina Moore, to know. It kills him to push her away, especially when he’s noticing just how sexy and confident she’s become in his absence. But, angry and full of fight, he’s not the same man anymore either. Which is why Warrior Fight Club sounds so good.

Kristina loves teaching, but she wants more out of life. She wants Noah—the boy she’s crushed on and waited for. Except Noah is all man now—in ways both oh so good and troubling, too. Still, she wants who he’s become—every war-hardened inch. And when they finally stop fighting their attraction, it’s everything Kristina never dared hope for.

But Noah is secretly spiraling, and when he lashes out, it threatens what he and Kristina have found. The brotherhood of the fight club helps him confront his demons, but only Noah can convince the woman he loves that he’s finally ready to fight for everything.

Review:
Until recently Noah was a serving Marine but after losing part of his sigh and hearing in an IED explosion he's now home and trying to find a way to move on with his life. The brain injury he received has left him with constant headaches and he's suffering with not just PTST but also survivors guilt after losing so many of his friends in the war. Basically Noah is in a very bad place, badly depressed and unsure if life is even worth living anymore. Kristina has been Noah's best friend since they were five years old and she hates seeing him so low, all she wants is to find a way to help her friend recover but things are made complicated by the sudden fierce attraction they are both feeling towards each other. Noah is very close to hitting rock bottom but can he pull himself back from the brink in time to build a future with the woman he loves.

Laura Kaye always writes such incredibly intense relationships and this is one of my favourites. I always enjoy the friends to lovers trope and Noah and Kristina have such a fantastic connection, one that goes deep and is far beyond just sexual attraction (although they're definitely not lacking in that department either!). The author tackles a lot of difficult issues in this story but she does it brilliantly and she really brought Noah's character to life. We get to see so many sides to his character, theres the strong and sexy man that Kristina has known all her life but then there is the more vulnerable side to him who is suffering deeply and very close to suicidal.

These topics are handled sensitively and I really appreciated the fact that Kristina wasn't able to magically cure Noah with sex, instead Noah had to find his own path to happiness and we get to see him really working hard towards his recovery. He finds a group of friends through Warrior Fight Club, an MMA fighting group made up of ex service members who are able to understand him in ways that Kristina can't because she doesn't have the same shared experience. Kristina was incredibly supportive but she knew that it was ultimately down to Noah to figure things out. I found it so easy to root for them as a couple and I loved the times they spent together just hanging out as well as in bed, they're actually pretty adorable together!

I really enjoyed the introduction to other members of Warrior Fight Club too so I have very high hopes for this series. I loved that the group doesn't only have male members and there are female fighters too, ones who have also served their country and have their own recovery to make. Laura Kaye is definitely onto another winner with this series and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!
