In this book, a picture is indeed worth a thousand words. Within its covers are 50 literary classics, deconstructed and then put back together word by word to create singularly beautiful pieces of art. The silhouettes that emerge from the text illustrate the central characters, landscapes, and themes of each story. This collection ranges across the canon, from 620 BCE to 1937. Bibliophiles will find many of their favorite reads as well as lesser-known gems to discover or rediscover. Review:
This book contains 50 literary classics that have been transformed into works of art using the text of the story to create images. At first glance you won't even notice that the images are made up of words printed in the smallest of fonts but if you use the attached magnifying glass you'll realise that all of the stories are readable as well as gorgeous to look at.

I have several of the Spinless Classics posters on my walls so I had an idea what I'd be getting when I ordered this book and I do think that this is a great coffee table book but I've decided that I actually prefer having posters that can be displayed rather than a bind up book containing many stories. My copy was actually missing the magnifying glass so I had to return it but I doubt I'd bother buying a replacement. I think the main problem was that I didn't love all 50 designs, there were some really great images in there but I wouldn't say I loved even half of them so there were a lot that were just okay or pretty boring to look at.

Although you can technically read the stories that isn't really what this book is designed for and I think even using the magnifying glass you'd end up with a headache if you tried to actually read this book rather than just enjoy the art for what it is. These images are very cleverly done though so definitely something most bibliophiles would appreciate and they make a great talking point too.

It includes all kinds of stories from A Midsummer Night's Dream to Grimm's Fairy Tales, Frankenstein to War of the Worlds, Around the World in Eighty Days to Peter Pan, The Importance of Being Earnest to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and many more besides. If you're a fan of the Discworld series then there is no way you've not come across Paul Kidby's gorgeous artwork as he's been illustrating the covers since 2002 and has brought all of Terry Pratchett's most popular characters to life.

This is an absolutely gorgeous hardback that includes all of Paul Kidby's favourite Discworld pictures, many you may have seen before but also some that were only used for foreign covers or limited editions or that have never been published elsewhere. You'll find images in a mix of mediums from black and white pencil drawings to sepia or full colour acrylic and oil paintings. I loved that some images we get to see the whole process from initial pencil drawing to finished acrylic painting.

The images are split into categories which should make it easier for you to go back and find your favourite images at a later date.

The Chalk - Focuses on images of Tiffany Aching and the Wee Free Men along with the occasional appearance from Granny Weatherwax and other characters found in the Chalk.

Lancre - Set in the Ramtop Mountains Lancre is home to Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg (and of course her cat Greebo) and Magrat.

Ankh Morpork - Expect to find characters like Rincewind, Twoflower, Moist Von Lipwig, Lord Vetinari, the Hogfather and groups like the Fool's Guild.

Pseudopolis Yard - Home to the Ankh Morpork City Watch Headquarters here you'll see Captain Sam Vines, Captain Carrot, Sergeant Fred Colon, Corporal Angua, Sergeant Detritus, Nobby Nobbs and of course Errol.

Ex Atelieris - This section includes drawings, paintings and sculptures of the great man Terry Pratchett himself both with and without his characters included and one of my favourite images of Terry playing chess with Death.

This really is a stunning book, I wish I'd been able to afford the Deluxe Special Edition that is only available directly from Paul Kidby or via the Discworld website but even the standard edition is a book that any fan would be proud to add to their collection!

Review:
As both a cat lover and someone with a whole shelf of these kind of humorous books that you can just dip in and out of when you have a few minutes to spare I absolutely jumped at the chance to review Catology. Unfortunately the book is actually a lot shorter than I expected and it didn't quite contain as much detail as I had hoped for.

I read a digital edition so I can't confirm the print layout but on my Kindle you see one image per page with a short one or two sentence caption underneath. Some of these cartoons are brilliant but only a couple actually made me laugh out loud and it wasn't enough that I could imagine myself flicking through the book a second time. There are only around 80 pictures included so it's a very quick read and I'd read from cover to cover within about 10 minutes but I just thought the book was lacking in depth compared to other similar books out there.

I've included a couple of my favourite images to give you an idea what to expect, these particular ones read very true to my experiences with my own cats and all got a chuckle out of me.

There is a reason that cats are so popular and I think it's because of their independent attitudes and the way they just completely ignore all commands and do exactly what they want when they want. People don't own cats, we're totally owned by them and this book does capture that so I think it would make a nice little stocking filler for any cat lovers in your life.

Review:
Containing over 400 photographs from 46 well known photographers there is no doubt this book contains something for everyone. A lot of these photos are erotic and the book is full of nude or semi nude guys but I think you'll be surprised at the variety of men included. They aren't all what you'd consider typically handsome guys and you'll find men from all walks of life: different ages, races, shapes and sizes, from body builders to guys with loads of piercings and anything in between. Not all of these men are conventionally good looking (in fact some are quite the opposite) but the way they have been captured by the photographers tends to make them shine with confidence.

Not all of the shots are explicit, there are a lot of fully or partially clothed pictures or photos that focus on one part of the body like a face or torso that are really artistic and actually quite beautiful. The pictures are featured in collections by photographer and while some artists were more to my taste than others I think they all had something unique to add to the collection.

This book is a celebration of the male body and all the many forms it comes in and I have no doubt that there is enough variety included to keep anyone coming back for more.

Review:
If you've ever seen the Des Hommes et des Chatons Tumblr page you'll know exactly what to expect from Men & Cats. It's an entire book full of pictures of hot guys and cute kitties, which in my opinion is pretty much the perfect combination!

There are some absolutely gorgeous photos in here and I love the way they are paired up so you have a guy and a cat in a very similar pose. My only slight complaint was that some pages have a lot of white space around the pictures, I'd have liked the images to be a little larger to reduce that but it really is a minor thing and not enough to cause reduce my rating.

Men & Cats is a hilarious coffee table book, my friend and I giggled the whole way through it but there may also have been a small amount of drooling too. With pics like these who could resist?

Review:
This is a beautiful book that is a perfect gift for any Trekkies in your life. The book is much larger than I expected (around 30cm squared) and is a really well made with a padded front and back cover and seven wonderfully detailed pop up designs inside. This isn't a children's book but it's great for teens and adults who are fans of Star Trek (it includes designs from Original series, Next Generation, Voyager and Deep Space 9).

Each of the pop ups feature an iconic image from the show:

1. U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701
2. "The Trouble with Tribbles"
3. Klingon Bird-of-Prey
4. Borg Cube
5. Deep Space 9
6. "Bride of Chaotica"

There is accompanying text with detailed information about the episode or series the image was taken from and although I doubt I'll reread the text I'll certainly revisit the book just for the pop-ups. Star Trek Pop-Ups is a lovely book to leave out as a conversation starter, it's certainly the kind of book you'll where you'll be able to flick through again and again spotting more details every time you look at it.

Review:
The Simon's Cat videos never fail to make me laugh, even when I'm having the worst day possible I can watch pretty much any of them to put a smile on my face so of course I've been religiously buying the books as they're published. Since I currently have a new kitten in the house this seemed like the perfect time to pick Kitten Chaos back up for probably the billionth time. These are the kind of books that you can leave sat on the coffee table and flick through whenever you have a couple of minutes (my friend actually has a whole shelf of books like this in her bathroom!) but this time I sat and read from cover to cover and found myself giggling away to myself the whole way through.

Simon Tofield is obviously an experienced cat owner and he captures common personality traits over and over again in his drawings and videos. I see hints of every cat I've ever met in these books but Kitten Chaos was particularly appropriate because my kitten is incredibly good at creating mayhem. So many of these images are currently part of daily life in my house and that just made them even more amusing.

I love the videos, I love these books and I'll continue to purchase them until the author stops publishing them!

Inside HBO's Game of Thrones: Seasons 3 & 4 is an absolutely stunning hardback with a beautiful padded and embossed cover that just begs to be picked up and read. As a huge fan of the TV series when I was offered a review copy of this book I couldn't say yes fast enough. I have to admit that I've not read the first book yet but this book is so fantastic that I've now ordered my copy and I'm looking forward to reading all about seasons 1 & 2.

This book is jam packed with information about the show starting with scouting locations, creating the theme tune and title sequence and inventing a new language (High Valyrian was limited to just a few words and phrases in the books). Pretty much every single page has at least one (if not several) beautiful glossy photo, drawing or diagram - enough to keep you amused for hours if you're just flipping through the book - but there is so much more to it than that. It's also packed with interviews with both cast and crew members, insights into costume designs, family trees, information about the history of various characters and their families, discussions about the differences between the books and the TV show and a detailed look at the major plot events from each series along with an episode by episode breakdown.

If you're a fan of Game of Thrones then this book is a MUST read, it's the kind of book you can leave sat on your coffee table and just keep diving in and out of every time you have a few minutes to spare and I'm sure you'll find something different to hold your attention every time.

I have a huge amount of respect for the armed forces, these men and women risk their lives for their countries and to uphold our way of life and I'm incredibly grateful to them for everything they do. I'm also fascinated with the tattoos people choose and the reasons behind them so of course I wanted to read War Paint the moment I first heard about it.

Kyle Cassidy has spent years talking to veterans and serving members of the military both young and old, talking to them about their tattoos and the stories behind them. As much as I enjoyed looking at the photographs of the tattoos themselves it was the stories that really captured my attention. This book contains a collection of stories from people who have served in the army, navy and air force anywhere from Korea and Vietnam to Iraq and Afghanistan. Some of these stories are amusing, more are poignant but all are heartfelt and they make for fascinating reading.

This is the kind of book that you can dip in and out of easily, one that you'll pick up and spend half an hour reading today but happily come back tomorrow to read a bit more. If you have any interest in military history or just a curiosity about tattoos in general then I'm sure you'll enjoy this book.

Review:
I have to confess that I wasn't familiar with Pusheen before I saw one of my friends reading this book on Goodreads. She mentioned that the book was available for reviewers on netgalley and after spending about half an hour browsing through the Pusheen the cat website I couldn't resist requesting a copy. I am a sucker for cute cat pictures and videos, I have all of the Simon's Cat books and regularly flick through them when I need something to make me smile so after giggling my way through the most popular posts on the website I knew I'd enjoy this book too.

I will say that this is the kind of book that I prefer to buy in print rather than in ebook. In my opinion the images never look as good on an ereader or computer screen and this is the style of book I like to be able to just pick up and open at a random page when I need something to brighten up my day. I'm pretty sure I'll be buying myself a print copy of this to add to my collection.

I was slightly disappointed that so many of the cartoons were ones I had already come across though. I would say that the majority were ones I'd seen previously on the website and like I already said I've only visited the site once. I think people who have been following the site for years might find that even more disappointing than I did. Having said that if you're new to Pusheen or a super fan of the cartoons then I'm sure the pictures will still make you smile. Pusheen is incredibly cute and reminded me a lot of my cats with her obsession with food and sleeping.

If you're unsure about whether to buy the book or not then I'd highly recommend checking out the Pusheen the Cat website to help you make up your mind. You can also see some sample pictures from inside the book on Amazon (and below)

Underwater Dogs is a fabulous photography book full of pictures of, yes you guessed it, underwater dogs! The photos range from cute to hilarious to downright absurd but one thing that is completely obvious its that these dogs are loving every minute of their photo shoots. I swear in most of the photos you can actually see the smiles on their faces.

This is the kind of book that is perfect to flick through when you're having a bad day and you want something to cheer you up. It definitely has a place on my keeper shelf and I know it's one I'll be going back to time and time again. Our family dog when I was growing up loved nothing more than swimming and I just wish that we'd had the idea to invest in an underwater camera - Seth Casteel you are a genius. What I really want to know is if he is planning a second book called Underwater Cats because I'd pay a fortune for a copy of that one!

Every single visitor to my house this week has picked this book up from the coffee table and laughed out loud while they flicked through it, even the ones who aren't particularly keen on dogs. Underwater Dogs is a perfect gift for any dog lover this Christmas and if my review hasn't convinced you that this is a book you need to have in your life then perhaps the following pictures will (the pictures included in my review have been posted with permission from the book's UK publisher Headline)

Who could resist those cute (if slightly manic and occasionally terrifying!) faces? This really is a must read book!
