The floating city exists…
Upon receiving the urgent missive, confirming the existence of the Flotilla, there’s nothing left for Holly to do but rush to their aid. Hundreds, if not thousands, of lives are at stake. But the government, now run by her crew, are holding back their efforts. Betraying them could mean the start of a bitter feud, just when the dark city has a chance to regain its lost resources.
Alaria Bancroft is in the fight of her life—against her father and his trusted followers. After cutting the hydro-farms loose, they’re in jeopardy of being lost at sea. To complicate matters, the biospheres are broken beyond repair and food stores are rapidly dwindling. If help doesn’t arrive soon, they all die.
Ari’s only option is to sneak back into the floating city, in one last attempt to save as many as she can. When Holly arrives, the two have to work together, but it might be too late…

Review:
When an urgent message for help confirms that the floating flotilla still exists Holly and her crew have no choice but to mount a rescue operation, even if their fledgling new government is determined to stop them. Alaria has done everything she can to protect her people from her father's increasing madness but they're nearly out of supplies and with the hydro-farms no longer attached to the main flotilla they are at increased risk of starvation unless Ari risks it all to ask outsiders for help.
Danger's Fate was a fab instalment to the Holly Danger series, we've heard rumours about the flotilla since early in the series but this is the first time we have confirmation that the floating city is still out there. Holly and her crew take a huge risk flying out over the water but with thousands of lives at risk, and a potential trove of new technology that could help survivors across the city, they have no choice but to attempt a rescue.
This was the first time we've had another narrator alongside Holly and I really loved Ari's voice. We're introduced to a whole new group of characters as one major story arc of the series ends and another is set to begin. I've really enjoyed spending time with Holly, Case, Dax and the others but it was fun to see another way of life aboard the floating ships and I'm looking forward to getting to know Ari and her friends better.
I've been really enjoying this series so I'm very glad it's not over yet and I think there's plenty of excitement to come in the next few books!

Review: Danger's Hunt - Amanda Carlson
The hunt is on…
Holly won’t rest until the outskirt is found. The militia who kidnapped him believe they have the upper hand, but they know nothing about what Holly carries in her pocket. With the status reader, Case is as good as found.
But once she arrives, things get dangerous fast. Tillman and his crew are expecting her. There’s nothing left to do but break through the walls before it’s too late. But what Holly finds is beyond shattering.
Once they arrive South, it’s a race to save the outskirt’s life. The scientists have some tricks up their sleeves, but time might run out before danger descends. When it does, they barely have time to make it out alive.

Review:
Each new book in this series ramps the stakes for Holly and her crew even higher and that's no exception in Danger's Hunt. What starts as a rescue mission when Holly goes after the militia group who captured Case quickly evolves into so much more when the group uncover some huge revelations. This whole series has been fast paced and full of action but this book is another game changer and the more we uncover the more hope we start to feel for the future of humanity.
It's so hard to review the fifth book in a series that's as intertwined as this one because talking about even minor events in this instalment can give major spoilers for previous books. This is one of those series that you have to read the books in the correct order - you'd really be missing out if you started here - but it's been such a joy to read that I'd highly recommend getting hold of Danger's Halo as soon as possible.
Fans of the series will love this latest instalment, I've waited a long time for some of the things that happened in this story and I love how all of the team have their own role to play. Holly is as brilliant as ever, Masie also added plenty of humour and her character had some brilliant developments and Daze stole the show as always. We find out a lot more about Case's background and we get to see all of Holly's original crew members (Bender, Lockland & Darby) working together towards a common goal. The direction the series is heading is a really interesting one and I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on the next book!

Review: Danger's Cure - Amanda Carlson
Before it’s too late…
Holly and her crew are on a quest to uncover the locations of the medi-pods following the clues Roman left behind, hoping to find at least one that hasn’t been destroyed before the government catches on.
The only problem is, someone already has. Strange UACs are popping up all over, and in order to take them out, the crew risks exposing itself.
When they do, what they find is chilling. The secret government group has a dark purpose. Holly and her friends have no choice but to launch an all-out war to set things to rights. But some factors have already been set in motion, and undoing them might take too much time and come at too high a cost.

Review:
This series is just getting better and better, Danger's Cure sees Holly and her friends working together trying to track down one of the high-spec medi-pods that has the capability of curing the seekers. Unfortunately they're not the only ones hunting for them and with time running out for Mary the stakes have never been higher.
We see more of the group working together in this instalment and things get pretty dicey for them as a rogue government agency does everything it can to stop them finding the cure. There is more going on with the government than meets the eye so Holly and her friends are facing danger on all sides now. We finally start to see Case open up more about his background, even if it was reluctantly, but I'm glad that he seems to be coming more of a fully trusted member of the crew. It's understandable why they've been wary of him in the past but I'm hoping that now they know more about him they'll find it easier to trust his intentions. Daze as always steals the show and I love how they're all like a big, slightly dysfunctional family.
The action is really ramping up and we're learning more about this world all the time which makes for great reading. These are the kind of books I can pick up and easily devour in one sitting so I'm really glad that it's only a couple of months until book 5, Danger's Hunt, is being published. If you like Amanda Carlson's urban fantasy books you should definitely give this futuristic dystopian sci-fi a try!

Review: Danger's Race - Amanda Carlson
Time is running out…
After defeating the uprising, and becoming infected with a dose of Plush, Holly is in a race to help a seeker before it’s too late. Going South is the only option. But getting there is going to prove difficult, which is why Lockland has entrusted Daze with a secret weapon.
A pulse storm, overzealous militia, and uncooperative siblings are only a few of the obstacles standing in their way. Once they arrive on the coast, the prospect of finding the supplies they need dwindles. But what they uncover may be far richer. A way to move the remaining survivors forward.
But the people of the town don’t see it that way. They want to protect what’s theirs. With the militia closing in, they do the only thing they have left to do, fight.

Review:
Danger's Race picks up immediately from where the last story left off - with Holly and the rest of her crew setting off on separate missions to find the ingredients needed for Darby to create a bulk supply of the cure that will save the seekers and remove their addiction to plush. Holly and her sustainee Daze are headed South in search of a vital but very rare component and it makes sense for Case to accompany them since he is familiar with the area, even if Holly isn't quite sure he can be fully trusted. What they find turns out to be even more valuable than they ever could have imagined but it also comes with a whole new set of dangers so things are about to get complicated.
I've been really enjoying this series and it's been great to have the first 3 books released so close together so that I don't have any trouble remembering what is going on. Although she reminds us of the important things Amanda Carlson doesn't waste a lot of time recapping previous events so things never get repetitive and boring but that does mean I would recommend reading the books in the correct order to make sure you don't miss anything.
These books have been full of action, the futuristic world is well thought out and believable, I like the camaraderie between Holly and her team, the technology is interesting and the plot is constantly moving forwards. Travelling out of the city means we don't spend much time with the rest of Holly's crew but we get the bonus of meeting some new characters who are likely to have interesting roles as the series continues. This is a brutal world though so not everyone they meet are friendly and they're facing danger at every turn from a militia group that are trying to consolidate their power base in the South. I really don't want to give too much away about the plot but things are definitely about to get complicated for Holly and Case.
The series is just getting stronger with every instalment and I can't wait to see where Holly's journey takes her next.

Review: Danger's Vice - Amanda Carlson
Outskirts never die...
After narrowly escaping death, Holly is back on the streets in a quest to find the elusive pico. Discovering what’s on the quantum drive—the same one the outskirts had been willing to kill for—is priority number one. Daze is recovering, and forgiving the kid was easier than she thought it would be. The cranky outskirt is another story.
It doesn’t take Holly long to discover that Tandor’s crew hasn’t been obliterated, and are actively seeking retribution. They’re recruiting Northerners, but she’s found one who’s willing to spill. It’s a good thing, too, since things are starting to get strange. On the hunt, she stumbles on an old man dressed in a burial cloth, and witnesses a seeker wandering the streets where it shouldn’t be.
But after a friend gets caught up in the fray, Holly’s hand is forced. She has to act fast to procure the information she needs. But what she learns is harrowing. The outskirts aren’t just taking over the city—they’re infecting people with Plush, and the quantum drive may hold the only key. In order to save lives, she’s must find that pico. The only problem is, it might be too late...

Review:
After taking out Tandor Holly and her crew should be out of danger but it looks like his second in command has quickly stepped up to take control and he's far more cunning and ruthless than Tandor ever was. Now the stakes are higher than ever, especially since they have a chance to find out the secrets the gang were keeping on the quantum drive, all they need to do is track down a working pico computer to read it.
This series is quickly becoming a favourite, fast paced and full of action this is futuristic sci-fi with an edge and I couldn't get through this book quickly enough. Holly is taking her sustainer relationship with Daze seriously and she's determined to teach him enough survival skills that he'd be able to survive on his own if anything happened to her. Since she's quite tough and in control in most situations it's nice to see a softer side to her where Daze is concerned and the kid makes a great side kick. Case is still on the scene too but Holly isn't sure whether he can be trusted, he's lied to her so many times and it's obvious that he's still keeping secrets but he also saved all of their lives in the end so surely that has earned him a little leeway.
There's a lot going on in this story but I don't want to go into too much detail because I don't want to spoil anything, we get to see a bit more of Holly's crew and Claire has some interesting revelations about what is going on in the current government that are going to have a big impact on future stories. Holly is forced into some very difficult positions and she isn't going to get through this fight without suffering a few losses but she will never, ever quit no matter how dire the situation looks. I'm definitely looking forward to the next part of her journey when Danger's Race releases in December.

Review: Danger's Halo - Amanda Carlson
153 years in the future, Earth doesn’t look much like it used to.
Holly Danger’s current assignment, gleaned from a set of foggy instructions and a handful of coin stuffed into a slot, is pick up a street kid who’s about to terminate himself by jumping off a cliff. And, as a rule, she doesn’t turn down currency. Her job as a salvager keeps her fed and clothed above the norm, which isn’t saying much.
The norm in this city is a scrape-by existence in a post-apocalyptic world, where the rain never stops, food is always scarce, and the elite have deserted the ranks in search of something better. Picking up this urchin won’t take much time, even if he’s located outside city limits. Her craft is fast, her weapons deadly, and her tech has been optimized as well as it can be for a climate clogged with iron dust.
But things take a big turn when she decides to become the boy’s guardian instead of hand him over. Outskirts have descended on the city, and their plans don’t include playing nice. When her crew is backed against a graphene wall, it’s a good thing her Gem is primed and ready to go. It’s almost as deadly as she is…

Review:
Danger's Halo is set over 150 years into the future in a post apocalyptic world that was nearly destroyed by a meteor strike. Although technology was much better than what we have now a lot of knowledge was lost, buildings were destroyed and life on the planet has become increasingly difficult as the survivors fight for resources. Holly Danger is a salvager which means she risks her life on a daily basis looking for items that could have some use or trade value. She's very, very good at her job and although she usually works alone she is also part of a team who back each other up as needed. Her latest assignment involves tracking down a missing street kid and returning him to the city, something that should be a quick and easy job, but it all gets a lot more complicated when she finds herself agreeing to look after the boy rather than hand him over to the people who want to hurt him.
As a huge fan of Amanda Carlson's Phoebe Meadows series I was incredibly excited when I found out she was writing a new futuristic sci-fi series and I have to say I loved this first instalment. Danger's Halo is a fabulous start to the series and I'm really looking forward to spending more time with Holly, Dare and the others. One of the hardest thing about setting up a new world is giving readers enough knowledge so that things make sense but without overwhelming them with unnecessary detail and I though Amanda Carlson hit the mark just about perfectly. I hate it when I start a new series and I don't know what caused the apocalypse but she managed to give me enough information to understand the lay of the land, at the same time I was never bored or bogged down by detail because the story was so fast paced and interesting.
Holly is a great character, she's smart and more than capable of looking after herself but she's also willing to accept help from her team when she's in over her head. She struggles to let anyone close and doesn't give her trust easily but when you make it into her inner circle she will always have your back. I really like what we've seen of her and the other team members so far and I'm definitely looking forward to getting to know them all better. I'm not always a fan of kids in stories but sometimes it works really well and that was definitely the case here. Dare may be 12 but he's grown up in a tough environment so he's more streetwise than most kids his age but he definitely has a lot to learn if he wants to give Holly a run for her money. I enjoyed the interaction between the two, he brings out a more caring and protective side to Holly who I'd say was probably a bit of a loner before and I think they'll make a good team.
This is one of those books I could easily have devoured in one sitting if I hadn't started it so late at night so I'd recommend picking it up when you have enough time to fully enjoy it. I'm very glad that the second book is out in October and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here.
