Review: Succubus Revealed - Richelle Mead

Review:
Finally Georgina and Seth are back together, everything should be going really well for them but for some reason Hell seems determined to keep them apart.  Georgina is being transferred to Las Vegas, she will be working with some of her favourite colleagues and have her dream day job.  Sounds perfect doesn't it?  But with Seth having to remain in Seattle to help his family Georgina and her friends have their suspicions that the transfer is too good to be true.  Just what is Hell up to?

As much as I was looking forward to reading Succubus Revealed I was also disappointed to have reached the end of the series.  I've really loved Georgina and her crazy group of friends so am sad to say goodbye to them all.  I have to say that it is nice to see a series end on a high note though and Richelle Mead has certainly achieved that with Succubus Revealed.

Before I even picked up the book I had a good idea of where the story was heading, well where I wanted it to go anyway, and I have to say I was extremely satisfied with how things turned out.  Even though I had guessed the main ending there were actually a couple of things that surprised me along the way (particularly a revelation about Seth and Roman's actions towards the end but I can't say more than that without spoilers).  The last book in the series is an emotional roller coaster ride and one I thoroughly enjoyed, I know this is a series I'll end up coming back to in the future and it's one I would highly recommend to urban fantasy fans.  I'm looking forward to seeing what Richelle Mead comes up with next (please let it be a spin off featuring some of the characters from this series - I'd love to see more of Roman and the gang!)

Review: Succubus Shadows - Richelle Mead

Georgina Kincaid has formidable powers.  Immortality, seduction, shape-shifting - child's play to a succubus like her.

Helping to plan her ex-boyfriend's wedding is a different story.  Georgina isn't sure which is worse - that he's marrying another woman or that she's having to run around trying on bridesmaid dresses.  Still, there are distractions.  There's a new succubus in town who seems intent on corrupting Georgina's soon-to-be-wed ex.

Review:
Succubus Shadows is the 5th book in the Georgina Kincaid series & continues the story not long after the ending of Succubus Heat.  While my review won't give you any spoilers for this book I can't help but give information about the previous books so if you're new to the series please don't read any further.  I'd highly recommend checking this series out though - so have a look at the reviews for book 1 Succubus Blues.

Georgina has a lot on her plate, not only has she gained one of her ex-boyfriends as a roommate but she is also helping to plan her best friend's wedding which would be fine if Maddie wasn't marrying the love of Georgina's life.  To top it all off there is a new succubus in town who seems intent on hooking up with Seth and she is being targeted by a strange supernatural force that wants to destroy her.  She is going to need the help of all of her friends if she is going to survive.

All I can say is wow!  This latest installment in the series had me on the edge of my seat and gripped until the very last page.  We learn so much more about Georgina's past and get to understand how she got to where she is now and what life has been like for her as an immortal.  It's heartbreaking watching Georgina help Maddie prepare for her wedding to Seth but there are also laugh out loud moments with her friends.  Richelle Mead has done a fantastic job starting to tie the threads from the ongoing storyline together and the plot takes even more twists that I really didn't see coming.

I don't want to give anything away because I want you to be able to enjoy the unfolding story as much as I did.  I will just say that we get to see just how much Georgina means to her friends when they go all out to rescue her when she is in trouble.  We also get to see much more of both Carter and Jerome in this book & I enjoyed finding out more about them both.  If you're a fan of the series then you're going to love this installment which I think is probably my favourite book in the series so far.  The only disappointment I have is that I've got to wait a year to read the next book which will be the final book in the series!

Review: Hearts in Darkness - Keri Arthur

Review:
This is the second book in the Nikki & Michael series by Keri Arthur and continues the story about 6 months after the end of Dancing with the Devil.  I won't give spoilers for this book but I'd strongly recommend reading the series in order & not continuing to read this review if you're new to the series.

The end of the previous book saw Michael leaving Nikki in order to protecter her - both from himself and from the dangers from the life he leads - and despite his love for her he has managed to keep his distance and avoid all contact.  Nikki is devastated that he has gone & is finding it hard to deal with the fact that he left her - she doesn't understand why he didn't even say goodbye.  She is still working as a Private Investigator and when Nikki and her partner Jake came under attack when following a local teenager Jake was injured and is now critically ill in hospital.  The teenager has vanished and it is up to Nikki to find him.  Michael is asked to investigate the disappearance of several wealthy men and he finds himself in need of Nikki's help - it appears that the cases they are working on are entwined.

Michael is still determined to keep Nikki at arms length, but now that Nikki has admitted her love for him she is equally determined to be a part of his life.  In spite of this they are going to have to work together if they are going to solve the mystery and survive this latest threat.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series & was not disappointed with this second installment.  Once again the action was continuous and I didn't want to put the book down - the plot was fast paced and had plenty of twists.  I'm enjoying seeing the relationship develop between Nikki and Michael and it makes a nice change that they can both openly admit their love for each other.  It's also interesting to see how Nikki's psychic abilities are changing now that she is linked to Michael.  I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Georgina Kincaid has been a bad, bad succubus...

...which should be a good thing.  But lately, thanks to her foul mood over breaking up with bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, she's been so wicked that Seattle's uber-demon Jerome, decides to "outsource" Georgina to a rival - and have her spy for him in the process.

Review:
This is the 4th book in the Georgina Kincaid series & continues the story several months after the end of Succubus Dreams.  While my review won't give you any spoilers for this book I can't help but give information about the previous books so if you're new to the series please don't read any further.  I'd highly recommend checking this series out though - so please check out book 1 Succubus Blues.

At the end of Succubus Dreams Georgina was left devistated by her break up with the love of her life Seth.  The beginning of Succubus Heat focuses on how she deals with this.  She is hurting and angry at the world and has been on a fast downward spiral into depression.  She no longer cares about stealing men's life force - in fact she revels in it - and her anger has changed her character completely.  She is pushing away her friends and her bad attitude has really annoyed her boss Jerome.

Jerome decides he needs a break from Georgina so when another demon requests his help he is happy to send Georgina to deal with it.  A satanic cult in Vancouver is doing more damage to the cause of evil.  The stunts they are pulling are giving the church more publicity and they need to be stopped.  Georgina is tasked with infiltrating the cult & stopping them - whatever the cost.

While Georgina is busy in Vancouver Jerome mysteriously disappears & suddenly all the lesser mortals find themselves without their abilities.  The vampires Peter & Cody are able to walk in the sun, Imp Hugh can't see mortal's souls and Georgina can't shape-shift and doesn't need to steal human life force to survive.  While they are worried that they may no longer be immortal this does have it's advantages - she no longer has to worry about not being able to sleep with Seth.  Of course he is still dating Georgina's friend Maddy so there are still complications.

With Jerome missing other demons are all fighting over who will get his job which is a major cause of worry for Georgina & their friends.  They don't want to be stuck with a new boss - after all they're better off with the devil they know - so they have to find Jerome before someone else is given his position.  Without her immortal powers it isn't going to be easy to locate Jerome - especially when she has no idea who is behind the plot to overthrow him.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - you still have the great mix of characters that I love so much, we also have some new introductions & the appearance of some old faces.  The plot is fast paced - particularly in the second half of the book & I really had trouble putting the book down.  If you're a fan of the series I'm sure you'll love this installment and I'm really looking forward to finding out what happens next.

Review: Succubus Dreams - Richelle Mead

Some days, a girl just can't cathc a break...

...especially when the girl in question is Georgina Kincaid, a shape-shifting succubus.  First there's her relationship with gorgeous bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, which is unsatisfying on a number of levels.  It's not just that they can't have sex in case Georgina inadvertently kills him (generally a turn-off for most guys).  Lately, even spending time together is a challenge.

Then there are the dreams.  Someone, or something, is preying on Georgina at night, draining her energy, and supplying eerie visions of her future.  Georgina seeks answers from Dante, a dream interpreter with ties to the underworld, but his flirtatious charm only leaves her more confused.  Now Georgina faces a double challenge - rein in her out-of-control love life and go toe-to-toe with an enemy capable of wreaking serious havoc among mankind.  Otherwise, Georgina, and the entire mortal world, may never sleep easy again.

Review:
This is the 3rd book in the Georgina Kincaid series and it lived up to my expectations.  I think this series just gets better & better with every book.  I love the characters in this series - Georgina is great but I also love her crazy friends, both human and immortal. 

This book follows on from Succubus Nights and life is still pretty complicated for Georgina.  She is still dating Seth & they are struggling to fight their urges to avoid risking Seth's soul.  She still needs to have sex to feed off the life force she receives & fullfill her quota of corrupting souls to keep Jerome happy.  Not only that but she now has to mentor a trainee succubus - one who has absolutely no idea how to attract a man!  I have to say her trainee was more than slightly irritating but luckily we're not forced to spend too much time listening to her.

Carter the angel is still on the scene but this time he has 3 other angel friends with him.  I really liked the new characters, Yasmine in particular, and I hope we get to see more of them in future books in the series.  The angels are on a mission but refuse to give Georgina any details.  Of course this only makes her more curious so she is determined to find out what is going on.  She doesn't have much time to devote to their problems though - she has more serious issues of her own.

Every time she has sex the life force she has gained is stolen while she is sleeping & she wakes up feeling like she hasn't fed.  She is also having very strange dreams - her dream shows her the one thing she wants more than anything but it is something she knows is impossible for her to have.  That just makes it even harder for her to accept.

I really loved this book & would highly recommend the series to anyone who loves paranormal books - I would recommend you read the books in order though so make sure you start with Succubus Blues.  I have to say I was completely shocked by some of the things that happen towards the end but I can't say anymore without giving spoilers.  I'm just relieved I've already got book 4 as I can't wait to find out what happens next - I'm off to start reading Succubus Heat now!

Georgina Kincaid's job sucks.  Literally.

Love hurts, and no one knows it better than Georgin Kincaid.  If she so much as kisses her new boyfriend, she'll drain his life force.  Georgina is a succubus - a demon who draws her power from men's pleasure.  Admittedly, the shape-shifting and immortality perks are terrific, and yes, Georgina did choose to join the ranks of hell centuries ago.  But it seems completely unfair that she can't get hot and heavy with the one mortal who knows and accepts her for who she is.

It's not just her personal life that's in chaos.  Doug, Georgina's co-worker at a local bookstore, has been exhibiting bizarre behaviour, and Georgina suspects that something far more demonic than double expressos is at work.  She could use help finding out.  However Bastien, an irresistibly charming incubus and her best immortal friend, is preoccupied in the suburbs with corrupting and ultra-conservative talk radio star - and giving Georgina some highly distracting come-hither vibes.  Georgina is going to have to work solo on this one - and fast, because soon, Doug's life won't be the only one on the line...

Review:
Succubus Nights is the second book in Richelle Mead's Georgina Kincaid series & I really loved both books.  These books are probably easier to read as stand alone than some other series out there but I'd still recommend you read them in order to get the most out of them.

Georgina is a fantastic character - obviously as a succubus she is beautiful but she has a great sense of humor and a caring personality that shines through.  She cares deeply about her friends - both immortal & human and does her best to look after everyone.  As a succubus she has to have sex with humans in order to steal their life force & retain her immortality which she really hates doing.  This makes life particularly difficult in regards to her relationship with Seth Mortensen her famous author human boyfriend.

If Seth & Georgina so much as kiss her succubus instincts will kick in & she'll end up taking years off his life.  Now that they are officially an item this is a major issue within their relationship, not to mention the fact that Georgina has to sleep with other men in order to survive so she constantly feels like she is cheating on him. 

Of course relationship issues aren't all Georgina has to deal with - her incubus friend Bastien is in town & needs her help to corrupt a local radio talk show host, her human friend Doug & his band are acting very strangely & she still has her day job at the bookstore to contend with.  It's enough to drive anyone crazy.

Her immortal friends from the last book make regular appearances with all the humor they showed in the first book.  They are constantly teasing Georgina about the fact she is dating a mortal and add a lot of comedy to the story.  The book is fast paced and has plenty of twists and turns that are guaranteed to keep you reading right to the last page.

When it comes to jobs in hell, being a succubus seems pretty glamerous.  A girl can be anything she wants, the wardrobe is killer, and mortal men will do anything just for a touch.  Granted, they can often pay with their sould, but why get technical?

But Seattle succubus Georgina Kincaid's life is far less exotic.  Her boss is a middle-management demon with a thing for John Cusack movies, and she can't get a decent date without sucking away part of the guy's life.  At least there's her day job at a local bookstore - free books: all the white chocolate mochas she can drink: and easy access to bestselling, sexy writer, Seth Mortensen, aka He Whom She Would Give Anything to Touch but Can't.

But dreaming about Seth will have to wait.  Something wicked is at work in Seattle's demon underground.  And for once, all her hot charms and drop-dead one-liners won't help because Georgina's about to discover there are some creatures out there that both heaven and hell want to deny...

Review:
Georgina Kincaid is a succubus with shape-shifting abilities, she has to have sex with human men and steal their life force to survive which also enables her to recruit their souls for evil.  She has been doing this for thousands of years but has become jaded & hates what she does.  She is lonely because she can't have a proper relationship without unfortunate side effects.  She is a sassy & fun character and you find yourself relating to her & the situation she has ended up in after finding out why she sold her soul in a series of flashbacks throughout the book.

I really liked Georgina but there are also some other fantastic characters that really made the story for me.  Her closest friends are an imp called Hugh and Cody & Peter who are both vampires.  Her boss Jerome is an archdemon who is obsessed with John Cusack and his best friend is an angel called Carter.  I loved the interaction between Jerome, Carter & Georgina and found myself liking each of the main characters.  I really liked the fact that there wasn't a black & white distinction between good & evil.  All of the characters are walking a line somewhere down the middle - although Georgina & her immortal friends are technically evil and steal people's souls they aren't completely bad.

Georgina's day job in a book shop gives her access to famous bestselling authors but nothing goes to plan when she gets to meet her idol Seth Mortensen.  When they are introduced she realises they have already met - in rather embarassing circumstances!  He is nothing like she expected him to be but she can't help feeling attracted to him which is the last thing she wants as she doesn't want to hurt him.

While fighting her attraction to Seth, Georgina is also trying to find out what is happening in the supernatural community.  Someone is killing immortals & it looks like Georgina and her friends could end up being their next targets.  Although I'd guessed who the enemy was before they were revealed there were a couple of twists that I didn't see coming at the end.  The story kept me gripped right to the end & I can honestly say it was one of the best books I've read for a while.  I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series & would highly recommend this book.
