Review:
Stolen by Her Bear is the first book in Felicity Heaton's new Black Ridge Bears mini series set in the same world as her Eternal Mates books and at the same location as the Cougar Creek books. If you've read the Cougar Creek books you may remember some of the bears and you'll enjoy seeing familiar characters pop up but this book does work on its own if you're new to the world.

Saint is the alpha of the Black Ridge bears and takes his duty to look after his brothers seriously so when they're woken up from their winter sleep by the noisy cougars its fair to say he's a little bit grumpy about it. He sets off down to the creek to try and figure out what is going on and get them to quiet down a little but his bear side takes over and instead he ends up abducting a female cougar who has an irresistible scent. Holly is spending winter in Cougar Creek to join in the wedding celebrations and the last thing she's expecting is to be snatched up by one of the local bears. The biggest surprise is that she realises she quite likes the gruff alpha and wants to get to know him better. The cougars aren't happy when they discover Holly is missing though and now she's going to have her work cut out to try and diffuse the tension between the two clans.

I have to confess I wasn't sure I'd like Saint in the beginning, lets face it abducting someone to get revenge on your enemy is hardly an endearing trait, but thankfully he is willing to admit when he messes up. He was tired and grumpy and knows he overreacted but he's also big enough to apologise when he's in the wrong and works hard to make amends which made it easy to like him after all. 

This series is all about fated mates so the romances tend to come easily to the couples but I enjoyed watching Saint and Holly get to know each other and I liked the way they are potentially going to bring their two clans together. Living in such close proximity it makes sense for them to be allies but they needed a way to bridge the gap and get to know each other well enough to stop causing tension. We got to meet a couple of the other bears and I'm looking forward to reading both of their stories as the series continues.

Review:
Tegan never wanted to be king of the Second Realm but when his brother was murdered just after negotiating a peace treaty he was next in line for the throne. Tegan wanted nothing more than to go to war with the demons who arranged for his brother's death but he also wanted to honour the treaty that his brother was so proud of. The crown has been a heavy burden for the last thousand years and he just wants a little freedom from his duty when he sneaks into the human world for a few hours of fun.

Suki may be a succubus but she's never felt fully a part of her clan. Her powers aren't as reliable as they should be and she's not very good at seduction so she would have starved long before now if her sisters hadn't shared their power with her. Suki feels she has one last chance to prove herself to the rest of the clan and she's worried that if she fails she will be kicked out and left to fend for herself. Determined to seduce a man powerful enough to give energy to the whole clan she targets Tegan in a bar but the more time she spends with him the less she wants to use him for a quick hit of energy.

Seduced by a Demon King is the 17th book in Felicity Heaton's Eternal Mates series and was probably my favourite of the most recent stories. Considering it's a book about a succubus and a demon I wasn't expecting the slow build romance that we got here and I loved how sweet and almost innocent the beginning of Suki and Tegan's courtship was. Don't get me wrong there was still plenty of chemistry between them but they didn't rush headlong into a sexual relationship because Suki was afraid of hurting Tegan. At the same time Tegan was pretty sure that Suki was his eternal mate and he didn't want to scare her off by coming on too strong so they spent time getting to know each other.

These two were just really cute together, especially with Tegan being so naive of human customs and technology as he's not been in our realm for such a long time. He's quite a geek though and loved learning about new things that he could take back to his own realm to make life better for his people, Tegan is definitely a king who cares for his people. Suki had very little confidence in herself or her own abilities so it was nice to see her realise that she was far more capable than anyone gave her credit for. This was a really enjoyable romance that has helped rekindle my excitement for this series.

Review:
Fans of the Eternal Mates series will already be familiar with Emelia, she was captured in battle in one of the first books and rescued from the dragon who has been tortured ever since in Taken by a Dragon. As a member of Archangel she's cropped up in other stories since then including Talon's story Turned by a Tiger. Now it's her time to find her own happily ever after in Avenged by an Angel. Emelia is matched with the Fourth Commander of the Echelon and their paths cross when he is sent to bring Sable to heaven to fight alongside the rest of the Echelon. Since she's mated to a demon king heaven is the last place Sable intends to go and Emelia helps her stay out of the Fourth Commander's reach.

I've been a fan of this series since the first book published back in 2013 and I always enjoy the romances that Felicity Heaton writes so it pains me to say that I struggled a bit with this one. I found the first half of the book was very slow going and it took me far longer to read than it should have because it just wasn't holding my interest. I liked the slow burn on the romance side but I think where this series is starting to fall down is on the overall story arc.

I like my paranormal romances best when there is some kind of ongoing plot in the outside world that is constantly changing from book to book and while the Eternal Mates series does kind of have something going on in the background it is taking far too long to actually go anywhere. The main issue is probably that we're 16 books in and yet we've been seeing the same period of time again and again and again. This starts not long after Emelia was rescued (which actually happened in book 7) and it covers several events we've already seen before in books since then like Talon going back into Archangel to rescue other captives (which happened in book 12!). Too much recapping and not enough forward motion made this story feel repetitive and a little boring.

I don't want to come across as too negative though because I have a lot of love for this world and for previous books in the series. Avenged by an Angel was enjoyable even though it didn't reach the heights I expect from this author, I liked both Emelia and the Fourth Commander's characters and the slow burn romance was a nice change since there are so many insta-love stories out there these days. The second half of the book was definitely far more action packed and the way it ended did give me hope that the overall story arc is going to start moving forwards soon so I'm hoping the next story won't have the same issues that I experienced with this one. It's still a series I'm happy to recommend and I'm looking forward to seeing where things are going from there but I definitely need things to keep moving so that the series doesn't start to stagnate.

Review:
Cobalt has known that Ember is his fated mate for 20 years but he was waiting until she reached 100 before acting on his feelings. He thought he had plenty of time to talk her around but now her mother is determined to find a mate for her at the pride gathering and Cobalt's position as protector means he's not allowed to step forward and try to win her heart.

Ember has spent years following her mother's plans and allowing her to control her life, that's been great while her mother was turning away unwanted suitors but she's not so happy now that her mother has decided it's time for her to settle down. There is only one man Ember is interested in and he's taken great pains to keep his distance from her. Finally deciding to take her fate into her own plans Ember intends to go get her man but first she needs to break a few pride rules to claim him.

Craved by her Cougar is the fourth and final book in Felicity Heaton's Cougar Creek Mates series and I really enjoyed getting to know Cobalt better. Like his brothers he blames himself for not protecting the pride better the night that Archangel attacked and killed his parents and a lot of other pride members and he has been punishing himself for that ever since even though there was nothing more he could have done at the time. Now seeing all his brother's happily mated while he isn't even allowed to tell Ember how he feels is tearing him apart.

I have to admit I'm not a big fan of the way the cougar males battle it out to win a chance to woo the female pride members, especially when it seems like any male can step forward and try whether the woman is interested in them or not. I know she gets to say no to any winners but it seems so pointless letting them have all these battles when the woman isn't going to say yes to any of the men who are fighting so viciously! I was a bit worried that there was going to be a lot of that in this story but luckily the fights that do happen are mainly off page until towards the end of the book and there aren't as many as I expected. Ember knows she wants Cobalt and she's not interested in the battles either, she just wants to claim her man and have him claim her in return. This has been a fun series and I'm glad we've seen all of the brothers find happiness now.

Review:
Flint is the youngest of the cougar brothers and he's haunted by the fact that he was too young to fight when their pride was attacked and his parents were killed. He blames himself for not being able to help protect them so he throws his energy into protecting the pride during their gatherings with his brothers. He is bemused by the mating frenzy that seems to have taken over his brothers and determined not to get caught with a mate himself because he has no intention of settling down enough to risk his heart.

Yasmine has come to Cougar Creek searching for her best friend Ivy, she's very protective of her friend and wants to make sure she is happy and safe. The last thing Flint needs is another human around the place but Yasmine isn't as easy to get rid of as he expected and it turns out her medical knowledge could be helpful if she is willing to teach Ivy and the brothers more skills to look after their people. Of course keeping the fact that they are immortal cougar shifters hidden from another human isn't going to be easy but it turns out Yasmine has a few secrets of her own that she doesn't want exposed too.

Courted by her Cougar is the third book in this series but I think the stories all standalone if you're not up to date. I'm enjoying getting to know each of the brothers and I really liked both Flint and Yasmine but I have to confess I'm not a huge fan of the cougar culture that we saw in this book. Some of the males can be pretty brutal to each other when they're trying to prove themselves and claim a mate and I found that a bit off-putting even though it wasn't Flint or any of the main characters who were actually causing trouble. I loved that Yasmine wasn't what she seemed and that she stood up for what she believed in and wasn't going to let anyone tell her how to live her life. She seemed to understand Flint really well and I think they'll be good together.

Review:
Captured by her Cougar is the second book in Felicity Heaton's new Cougar Creek Mates series and gives us the chance to get to know one of Rath's brothers Storm. Storm doesn't spend much of his time at Cougar Creek, preferring city life instead he has only returned now to help his brothers oversee the gathering and make sure nothing happens to his pack mates. After the recent attack by Archangel they are expecting trouble and Storm is looking for more information. The one person who might be able to provide it is Gabi, the half-sister of the man who led the latest attack who is currently Storm's prisoner. Gabi claims she knows nothing about Archangel and wasn't aware of what her brother had planned but Storm and his family have been hurt by humans before so it isn't going to be easy for her to gain his trust, no matter what his instincts are telling him.

This has been a really fun series so far and I enjoyed this instalment just as much as the first book. These stories are short, fast reads with plenty of humour and a good dose of romance and heat. Gabi is completely out of her depth, she didn't even know cougar shifters existed until her brother launched an unprovoked attack and one changed shape right in front of her, she was horrified by his actions but is also wary of her current situation knowing that she is trapped with no way of escape. No matter how much Storm tries to scare her into talking she refuses to let him intimate her and it doesn't take long for her to understand the fear that is behind his actions. She stands up to him from the very beginning and they have a spark from the moment they meet.

This was a fun story that gave us the chance to see a little more of Cougar Creek and gave us a brief glimpse of both of Rath and Storm's other brothers but we've not seen enough for me to guess which one will be the hero of the next story and I definitely have no idea who their love interests will be so I'm going to enjoy finding out.

Review:
Claimed by her Cougar is the first book in Felicity Heaton's new Cougar Creek Mates series, this is a spin off set in the same world as the Eternal Mates books but can be read completely separately. I don't believe there will be any crossover of characters in this series so you won't be lost if you start here.

Rath's parents and mate were killed in an attack on their pride by a group of Hunters and ever since then he ha done everything in his power to protect the survivors. Cougars tend to be solitary creatures so although they have a meeting point where they can come together for gatherings most of the time they roam alone or in small family groups. Rath is preparing their isolated home ready for a gathering when a human enters their territory, he has sworn to keep their community secret and the last thing he needs is a woman walking around taking pictures but his instincts want him to claim the stranger rather than send her on her way. Ivy is a photographer who is searching for bears when she comes across Rath and his home, she knows nothing of shifters and has no idea what she has stumbled into but when danger comes calling she has to decide what path her future will take,

If you've read any of the Eternal Mates books you'll know what to expect from this series, Felicity Heaton always writes great paranormal romances with characters that are easy to root for, sweet and sexy romances and a nice amount of action thrown into the mix. We haven't met many members of the pride yet but I'm already looking forward to Storm's story and to meeting the rest of Rath's brothers too. These are the perfect kind of story for when you just want something quick and satisfying to read and I'm glad we don't have to wait long for the next release!

Review:
If you're a fan of the Eternal Mates series then you'll probably remember meeting Fuery before, he's one of the elves who is very, very close to giving into the darkness inside him and becoming completely lost to bloodlust. The only things keeping him going have been his bond with fellow assassin Hartt and seeing Prince Vail start to recover since meeting his fated mate Rosalind. Fuery is full of doubt and self loathing after certain events in his past have left him broken, he accidentally killed his fated mate in a fit of rage and doesn't believe he deserves forgiveness or redemption.

Shaia has been grieving for the mate she lost over four centuries ago and she has been kept from living a full life by a very overprotective family and a patriarchal society that believe women should be cosseted and looked after by the men in their lives. She is desperate to break free and make her own choices but when her family caught her at a low point they persuaded her to agree to marry a man of their choosing. The last thing she wants is to end up stuck in a loveless marriage and when an old friend gives her hope that the one thing she has always wanted more than anything might still be possible she has to face her fears and go searching for the happily ever after she deserves.

I'm a sucker for a broken hero so of course I've been waiting what feels like forever to get my hands on Fuery's book. He was so heartbreakingly sad and broken by the events of his past and even when he's confronted with the truth he is scared to believe it. The only thing that's kept him going this long is the strong bond of friendship he has with fellow assassin Hartt and I really loved the bond between them. I may have been a little annoyed by Hartt's actions at times when it came to Shaia but he was only ever trying to protect Fuery so I could forgive him for that and I really hope we get a story about him in the future. Shaia has spent her whole life being protected by her family and has never really had to face the world on her own but she's brave and determined so I enjoyed seeing her stretch her wings and fight for the things she wanted most. Their romance was surprisingly sweet considering the darkness Fuery has inside him and I loved seeing them work through their demons together.

Unchained by a Forbidden Love was another fab instalment to the Eternal Mates series and I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Review:
I've been looking forward to Grey's story since we first met him in Turned by a Tiger, he's Talon's twin brother but has always been looked down on by their pride (outside of his immediate family) because he is a rare white tiger and doesn't look like any of the others. You'd think that would make him unique and special but apart from his siblings Grey has always been looked down on by the others and made to feel lesser than them. Grey focused all of his energy on protecting his sister Maya but now that she is happily mated and has moved away he is a bit lost and feeling very out of place. He didn't want to stay with the pride but he didn't really have anywhere else to go so he decides to do some digging into Archangel and try to figure out what they were up when they captured Talon.

Grey's investigations have taken him deep into Hell and when he comes across a group of slavers his protective instincts roar to life and he fights to free the captives, including a beautiful hellcat called Lyra. Lyra has already had her heart broken once when the man she trusted sold her into slavery so she doesn't trust her instincts when it comes to men. She has a debt to pay for her freedom though so she offers to translate for Grey while he continues his investigation into Archangel. The pair quickly realise that they are fated mates but both of them have their own reasons to be wary and not to act on the bond. Lyra finds it hard to trust and Grey is convinced that when she sees his "deformity" she'll turn her back on him so believes it's safer to not get involved in the first place.

The attraction is definitely there even though they're both reluctant to act on it so this was definitely a slower paced romance where they spent time getting to know each other before admitting their growing feelings. I really enjoyed the pace of their romance, this series is all about fated mates so the couples know very quickly upon meeting that they are meant to be together, but Felicity Heaton has a knack of drawing that out and making them work for their happily ever afters. I always know I'm going to get a sweet but hot romance when I pick up one of her books and that's the reason I enjoy them so much.

When it comes to the ongoing story arc we're starting to get some really interesting information about Archangel now and I think things are starting to come together ready for a big showdown. It's going to be really interesting to see who gets their story next (I'm hoping for a certain dragon!) and I'm definitely looking forward to the downfall of Archangel after all the harm they've caused the supernatural community.

Review:
August took over as Alpha of his pride when his cousin Cavanaugh abdicated to be with his mate Eloise. The responsibility weighs heavy on his shoulders and with upcoming trade negotiations August has come to Underworld to ask for Cavanaugh's advice. Maya is a tiger shifter who was promised to the alpha of another pack at birth, the last thing she really wants is to move away from her home to be with a man she's never met but she feels she owes it to her pack and to her parent's memory to do what they planned for her. Travelling with her brother Grey to Siberia for her wedding they stop in at Underworld to visit their other brother Talon so she can say goodbye. The last thing she expects is to find her fated mate, especially not in the form of a snow leopard alpha. As much as she longs to be with August she knows a future between them is impossible and she fears backing out of her arranged marriage would put her pack in danger but can they find a way to be together against all the odds?

I really enjoyed Tamed by a Tiger, this series has always been a favourite of mine but I've been enjoying getting to know this family of tiger shifters and I'm really hoping that Grey's book might be next! Maya is in a really difficult position, her oldest brother who is the pack alpha, has ordered her to go ahead with the marriage her parents arranged for her but her two other brothers are dead set against the idea. They've both heard terrible rumours about her future husband but that only makes her more fearful that if she doesn't go through with it her fiancé will attack everyone she loves and attempt to destroy her whole pack. As much as she longs for a different future she knows what needs to be done but she wants to claim one powerful memory of her own to see her through the difficult future that lies ahead of her.

August is drowning in a responsibility he never asked for since he took over as alpha, it's a position he has very little experience for but he's determined to do a good job and keep his people safe. He's immediately drawn to Maya but being a foolish man he doesn't recognise the signs that she is his fated one. He is so blind to the possibility that he almost loses her forever but luckily he comes to his senses in time. The snow leopards have a lot of stupid traditions about mating within a strict hierarchy so even when Cavanaugh found his fated mate they wouldn't accept the match because she wasn't high born enough. That means that they'll never accept an outsider as their alpha's mate but August has had just about enough of a useless tradition that is only hurting the people he cares about so he's determined to change the way things work.

I don't want to say too much more but I really enjoyed the romance between Maya and August, things happen very quickly between couples in this series - that whole fated mates thing means emotions become involved very quickly - but somehow it just works for me every time. I guess because I know what I'm getting going in and Felicity Heaton always does such a brilliant job of creating a connection between her characters that goes beyond the physical. This was another great instalment to a series that is still going strong and I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Review:
I always know I'm in for a fun story when I pick up one of Felicity Heaton's books so I went into Turned by a Tiger with high expectations and she didn't let me down. Talon was captured by Archangel and has been being held prisoner for months while they performed experiments on him, he managed to escape but was badly wounded and now he's in desperate need of somewhere to recuperate before he goes back and tries to save his fellow prisoners. Stumbling into Underworld looking for safety he's shocked to discover his fated mate waiting there for him, even more so when he realises she is a normal human woman not a fellow shifter.

Sherry loves her job at Underworld and has learned to hold her own amongst its immortal clientele but there is something about Talon that calls out to her in a visceral way. When Kyter refuses to offer him sanctuary Sherry offers to let him stay with her until he has recovered but once she has him in her home she quickly realises that she doesn't want to let him leave. When Sherry and her friends realise what Archangel have been up to they agree to help Talon with his rescue mission but will Sherry be left with a broken heart at the end of it all or can she find happiness as human with an immortal shifter who will outlive her by centuries.

I have to admit I was a little put off by the massive case of insta-love between Talon and Sherry, I've got nothing against instant attraction but things go way beyond that between them within 24 hours and that's not my favourite trope. I was able to forgive that because I did really like both characters though, the banter between them was amusing and they had great chemistry but I also liked the way they worked together to help rescue his friends. Sherry had a role of her own to play in the rescue mission and Talon wouldn't have been able to do it without the help of her and several of the other characters we've come to love throughout this series. The rushed beginning of their relationship allowed us to dive right back into the action and we did get some slow and sweet scenes with them as a couple at the end that satisfied my need for a little romance.

It was great to catch up with some of the previous characters and I definitely enjoyed meeting Talon's family so I'm really pleased that his sister's story is up next (I'm really hoping his brother's will follow soon afterwards!). I'm definitely interested to see what Archangel is up to, it looks like things have taken a sinister turn within the organisation so there is definitely more to be revealed there. Each story in this series works as a standalone featuring a different couple but now that the plot is getting more interconnected I'd recommend reading the series in order to make the most out of it. It's a series that's going from strength to strength though and I'm looking forward to continuing it!
