Review:
Having the Barbarian's Baby is a short story in Ruby Dixon's Ice Planet Barbarians series and it gives us a chance to get to know two of the side characters Cashol and Megan. They're already mated and Megan is heavily pregnant, due to give birth any day now, so this isn't about the start of their relationship but it does give us some insight into day to day life in the cave.

I did really like Cashol, he was so attentive and protective of Megan and he went out of his way to make life as easy for her as possible but unfortunately I ended up feeling like he was totally wasted on such an awful heroine. Megan drove me bonkers, she was so clingy that Cashol wasn't even allowed to leave the cave to go and hunt for food. This is at a time when their cave has far more people than ever before with the addition of all the human women, not to mention the number of new babies that are on the way. They're approaching winter, food stores are already critically low and this is a planet where winter can be deadly. They need every single capable person out there bringing back as much food as possible or literally the entire population is at a very real risk of starving yet Cashol can't go further than 5 feet from Megan without her having a total meltdown. It might have been more understandable if he would be leaving her totally alone but she was in a cave full of people!

Megan totally ruined this story for me. It was great to catch up with other characters but I ended up feeling sorry for Cashol, he really struck out when his cootie chose Megan as his mate!

Review: Barbarian's Mate - Ruby Dixon

'Resonance' is supposed to be a dream - that's when your soulmate is chosen for you. And everyone on the ice planet has hooked up with a big, hunky soulmate of their own... except me. So do I want a mate? Heck yeah. More than anything, all I've ever wanted is to be loved by someone.

Except that the soulmate chosen for me? My least favorite person on the darn ice planet. Haeden's the most cranky, disapproving, unpleasant, overbearing male alien... so why is it that my body sings when he gets close? Why is he working so hard to prove to me that he's not as awful as I think he is?

I hate him... don't I?

Review:
I'm a huge fan of this series so it pains me to say that this book was probably my least favourite so far. Haeden was fantastic but my god Josie drove me insane for a large chunk of the book! She was selfish and self-centred and absolutely refused to talk to Haeden about what was bothering her. I'm really not a fan of pointless drama that could be solved with a single conversation being dragged out for half the book and that came close to ruining this story for me which was disappointing.

What was most irritating is that I understood why Josie was so reluctant to give into the resonance between her and Haeden but it was frustrating that she was so desperate for a family but refused to even give him a chance. There had been a huge misunderstanding between them and it could have been really fun to see them go from enemies to lovers but Josie stomps off on her own like a child having a tantrum putting her life and Haeden's in danger and I just wanted to shake her.

Luckily things improve in the second half of the book when Josie FINALLY agreed to talk to Haeden and I am glad they worked things out in the end but it was a little too long coming in my opinion and I just felt that Haeden deserved better from his mate.

Review:
Tiffany is one of the few remaining human women yet to find a mate and because of that she's receiving a lot of attention from the single males in the cave, all of whom are hoping she'll resonate with them. The last thing Tiffany wants or needs is a man though and after the brutal rape she suffered while they were still captives on the alien ship all this extra attention makes her extremely uncomfortable.

Salukh takes a very different approach to the other males so rather than competing for her attention and being brazen about what he wants from her instead he takes the time to get to know her and become her friend. He goes out of his way to bring her things he knows she'll find interesting and he never pressures her to spend time with him when she needs space. I loved how patient he was with her and really enjoyed the slow build nature of the romance that develops between them.

I'm not a fan of rape being used as a plot device in stories, especially romance, so I was a little worried going in but overall I think Ruby Dixon dealt with Tiffany's past quite realistically. She's been through a huge emotional trauma and its no wonder she finds even the thought of getting physical with a man (well alien in this case LOL) terrifying. I'll admit that once she starts to admit her feelings for Salukh things escalate quite quickly but I can forgive that in this series, especially when you have a hero as gentle and patient as Salukh was.

This series is one of my guilty pleasures that I pick up when I'm in the mood for something light and fun but with a nice amount of heat - I just can't seem to get enough of these big, blue, furry aliens! - so I'm already looking forward to the next book which I believe will finally be Josie and Haeden's story.

Review:
Ice Planet Holiday isn't so much a stand alone story in this world but more of a chance to catch up with previous couples and see the women try to explain the traditions of Christmas to the aliens of Not-Hoth. Can you imagine trying to explain the tradition of mistletoe to someone who has never heard of Christmas? Georgie and the other women have been talking about holidays they miss and thinking about creating their own traditions for their new home but confusion abounds when Georgie tries to explain Christmas to Vektal. Of course he would do anything to keep Georgie happy but understanding what she actually wants is a whole world of fun.

It surprises me how much I enjoy seeing day to day life in the caves and I liked seeing some of the new, youngest, tribe members arrive far more than I expected to. Often babies can be my kryptonite and they're not usually something I want to read about, especially in smut books, but they were actually fun here & I'm enjoying seeing the tribe slowly expanding.

Even though this is a fairly short novella (less than 100 pages) Ruby Dixon still treated us to a new romance between Claire and Ereven, they don't get so much page time as the previous couples did in their books but I didn't feel that their relationship was particularly shortchanged and I'm sure we'll see more of them as the series continues. Ereven was adorable and I thought he was a great match for Claire. This is such a fun series and I'm glad there are already so many books published so I have plenty more already waiting for me to read them.

Review: Barbarian Mine - Ruby Dixon

The ice planet has given me a second lease on life, so I'm thrilled to be here. Sure, there's no cheeseburgers, but I'm healthy and ready to be a productive member of the small tribe. What I didn't anticipate? That there'd be a savage stranger waiting nearby, watching me. And when he takes me captive, the unthinkable happens...I resonate to him.

Resonance means mating, and children...but I don't know if this guy's ever been around anyone before. He's truly a barbarian in all ways, right down to clubbing me over the head and claiming me as his own.

Review:
You might remember in Barbarian Lover that Harlow was smacked over the head and carted off by a mysterious stranger when she was out with Kira, Aehako and some of the others. Well Barbarian Mine is Harlow's story and it introduces us to the most caveman like of the aliens so far (which is really saying something!). Rukh was raised by his father away from the rest of the clan and was taught to avoid them so ever since his father died he has lived completely alone. He has all the skills he needs to survive but let's just say his manners and cleanliness aren't the greatest because he's never had a need to worry about them. The minute he saw Harlow he knew she was meant to be his so what's a cave alien to do other than knock his woman unconscious and run so he can rescue her from the evil aliens?

I don't know what it is about this series but I'm totally addicted. There are a lot of reasons Barbarian Mine shouldn't work, I'm not usually a big fan of guys who think its okay to assault and abduct the women they're interested in thats for sure, so I was a bit sceptical going into this one but with some weird alchemy Ruby Dixon completely sold me on this pairing. I think it was because Rukh was just so damn adorable, he was quite innocent in a lot of ways but he was a fast and very willing learner when it came to anything that would please his woman. Harlow was pretty accepting of her situation but she wasn't a pushover and like all the women in this series she was smart and capable.

If you're looking for an alien smut fix I can't recommend this series highly enough and if you've never tried an alien smut series then this is definitely the one to start with!

As one of the few humans stranded on the ice planet, I should be happy that I have a new home. Human women are treasured here, and one alien in particular has made it clear that he wants me. Review:
I really do love these hunky blue aliens (who doesn't need some alien smut in their lives sometimes?) and Aehako is my new favourite. He's just such a funny, easy going guy who doesn't take himself too seriously. I wasn't so sure about pairing him up with Kira at first, she's always been the most standoffish of the women and I was worried she'd bring Aehako down, but they ended up working really well together.

I liked Kira a lot more than I expected to when I learned about her backstory and it was pretty heartbreaking that she was expecting to be rejected by the clan when they found out that she can't have children. Aehako has been drawn to Kira from the moment he saw her, he doesn't care that they haven't resonated for each other because he's convinced that she's the only woman for him and he's determined to prove it to her. Kira is more reluctant though, what if she gives Aehako her heart and then he resonates for someone else in a few months or years time and abandons her? I loved Aehako's reaction when he realises that Kira can't have children and that's whats holding her back, he doesn't care if that means they'll never have kids of their own he just wants Kira to be his.

My favourite moment was when Aehako presents Kira with a courting gift. Only Liz would manage to convince an alien that it's traditional for human men to present the women they're interested in with a carved replica of their own penis and only Aehako would see the funny side of her playing that trick on him. His reaction was just priceless and I laughed out loud throughout that whole scene. It just showed how sweet and funny Aehako is.

This story isn't all about the romance though, there is also a bit more action thanks to the return of the aliens who originally kidnapped the women and brought them to Not-Hoth. Kira still has the translator implant in her ear that they gave her on the ship and she can hear that they have retuned and are searching for them. She's worried that the translator will have a locator chip that will allow them to find her and she's terrified about leading the aliens to the rest of the group so she decides to go off alone and confront her enemies. Of course Aehako isn't going to let her leave without him but with only primitive weapons they're no match for the other aliens so it's going to take all of Kira's smarts to figure out a way to defeat them.

Barbarian Lover was definitely my favourite book in the series so far. I do have one complaint about something that happened to Kira right towards the end of the book but I can't really talk about it without giving spoilers, it was something I had guessed pretty early on would happen but I was disappointed when I was proved correct. I just don't think it sent the right message to other women out there who can't have children (or don't want them) and I would have loved this book even more if Ruby Dixon hadn't taken the obvious route to give this couple their HEA. It's a fairly minor niggle in the grand scheme of things though and I'm still really looking forward to continuing the series.

Review:
I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I have been enjoying this series, I picked it up just expecting some fairly straightforward alien smut but there is actually a pretty decent story and some great characters in there too. We saw Raahosh sneak away with Liz at the end of the previous book, his khui recognised Liz as his mate immediately and but he was worried someone else in his tribe would try to claim her so he stole her away to give her time to accept the bond between them.

I loved Liz but I can understand why she could rub some people up the wrong way, especially in the beginning thanks to her abrasive attitude. She's quite a brash character who knows what she wants and doesn't like being told what to do, she is skilled though and she's got the abilities she needs to survive without the help of her big blue alien kidnapper. She is not at all happy with the way Raahosh has treated her and she's even less happy that she had to accept a khui to survive on this new planet so she's not about to let her new "cootie" decide who she has to spend the rest of her life with. She is determined to resist Raahosh at any cost but her feelings towards him start to change when she spends more time getting to know him.

Raahosh is her opposite in a lot of ways, he's also a skilled warrior but he's been fairly isolated amongst his tribe and is a bit of a loner in a lot of ways. He is much more sensitive and thoughtful than it first appears and he's actually quite adorable when you get to know him. I really enjoyed seeing him try to win Liz around, it was amusing seeing how confused he was by the way Liz reacted to things he said and did. She wasn't at all the woman he expected her to be but I think he grew to respect her even more because of it.

The one thing that irritated me about this book was the way the rest of the tribe treated Raahosh and Liz. It's understandable that they had to have rules in place but I was annoyed that they wouldn't even let Liz have a say in certain things that would effect her entire future. I was even more annoyed by Liz's friends who should have stood up for her but basically let her get on with things with no support. Luckily that wasn't dragged out for too long and I was happy with the way things resolved so it didn't bother me too much. This series has been a lot of fun so far and I'm looking forward to continuing it.

Review:
It hasn't been a great week for Georgie, first she gets abducted by aliens who want to sell her as a sex slave, then when the alien ship starts having technical problems, they abandon her and all the other female prisoners on a snow covered planet. The women have no food and very little in the way of clothing, they're terrified and traumatised and it's up to Georgie to try and figure out a solution for them. They have no idea if the alien ship will return for them, and to be honest they're kind of hoping that it won't, but that means trying to survive in a rather inhospitable environment.

Georgie is brave enough to go searching for food but she wasn't expecting to bump into a rather large, horned blue alien who seems to think she's his mate. Vektal recognises Georgie immediately as the woman who is meant to be his but can he convince her that his tribe will protect her and the others from the aliens who abducted them and can she ever accept him as her partner?

I was already a paranormal romance fan but who knew venturing out into alien smut would be such a fun experience? Ice Planet Barbarians is ridiculous, hilarious and surprisingly hot. I definitely wasn't expecting to develop a crush on a big blue alien but I think I might just add Vektal to my book boyfriend list - I don't even mind the fact that he comes with horns and a tail!

Georgie is a nice enough character but Vektal completely stole the show, he's an alien caveman with a super sweet side and boy does he know what he's doing under the furs. I'm thrilled that this is the start of a series and can't wait to read more about these big blue aliens and the women that make them resonate.
