Review:
I'm still absolutely loving these illustrated editions of the Harry Potter series. There is just something so beautiful about these hardbacks and I can't wait to have the entire set on my shelves. I've seen some reviewers complaining that this book had less illustrations than the previous ones but I think that was bound to happen now that we're getting to the longer books in the series. I don't think the goal was ever to turn these into picture books, the idea is to add to the story with complimentary artwork so unless we want these hardbacks to be doorstops (or to have the remaining books split into two parts) then we're going to have to accept that not every page will have a picture.

We're all so used to visuals of the actors from the movies that they've pretty much become the characters in my head so I really enjoyed seeing Jim Kay's versions and the changes he's made. I'm just enjoying seeing the story with fresh eyes and could spend ages just looking at the illustrations as there is so much detail. You really do spot something different every time you flip through the book.

I've already reviewed the story of Goblet of Fire (you can read that review HERE) so I'm not going to go into detail again but this is still one of my favourite series and Jim Kay's illustrations have only added to that love.

I could have included hundreds of pictures with this review but I've tried to narrow it down to just a few favourites, you'll just have to buy the book if you want to see the rest!

Review:
It's no secret I'm a crazy Potterhead, I have a ridiculously large collection of books and merchandise but there is no doubt that these gorgeous illustrated editions are some of my favourite items. Jim Kay's gorgeous artwork just adds a whole new level to J.K. Rowling's incredible stories and I can't wait to have the whole collection complete.

As with the previous illustrated editions this is a fantastic quality hardback with glossy pages and illustrations on pretty much every page. The text is a good size and easy to read and I love the way the illustrations vary from tiny little pictures surrounded by text, to subtle background images with text over the top, right through to beautiful full double page spreads. This book in particular has images of Crookshanks and Scabbers scattered throughout which was a fantastic detail (if you remember Crookshanks spends a lot of time chasing Scabbers in this story!).

I've already reviewed the story of Prisoner of Azkaban (you can read that review HERE) so I'm not going to go into detail again but this is still one of my favourite books of the series and Jim Kay's illustrations have only added to that love.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2017

Today's topic is Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2017. (Yes I realise I'm posting this on a Wednesday but I already had something scheduled for yesterday!)

1. Wildfire - Ilona Andrews - This is kind of a cheat since I have an arc so I've already read it (twice!) but I'm such a fangirl of everything Ilona and Gordon write and this series is my favourite so I HAD to include it!
2. Silver Silence - Nalini Singh - I'd also include Archangel's Viper on this list because I adore both the Psy-Changeling and the Guild Hunter series.
3. The Scorpion Trap - Pippa DaCosta - If you like the sound of Egyptian gods roaming around modern day New York then you HAVE to give this series a try!
4. Godsgrave - Jay Kristoff - Nevernight was one of my favourite books last year so this one was a no brainer, I can't wait for more of Mia and Mr Kindly's adventures.
5. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Illustrated Edition - J.K. Rowling & Jim Kay - I've read this whole series a million times but it'll never be too many and these illustrated editions are absolutely gorgeous.
6. The Language of Thorns - Leigh Bardugo - I love the Grisha world so I'm excited to go back to it with this collection of short stories. I'm also really looking forward to her upcoming superhero book Wonder Woman: War Bringer.
7. Renegades - Marissa Meyer - I'm really excited we're seeing a trend of superhero books this year, I've enjoyed everything else Marissa Meyer has written so I have very high hopes for this new duology.
8. Artemis - Andy Weir - I loved The Martian so Artemis jumped to the top of my wish list the minute I heard about it.
9. La Belle Sauvage - Philip Pullman - I read the Dark Materials series when it was first released, in fact I've reread it too many times to count over the years so I'm thrilled he's decided to return to this world.
10. Forest of a Thousand Lanterns - Julie C Dao - Not only is the cover for this one beautiful but it's also described as "The Wrath and the Dawn meets Snow White and the Huntsman in this dark and mystical East Asian fantasy reimagining of The Evil Queen legend" and I can't possibly resist a blurb like that!

Review:
I absolutely adore these illustrated editions of the Harry Potter series, the first one was stunning and the Chamber of Secrets is just as beautiful so I can't wait to have the entire series on sitting on my shelves! I'm not going to talk about the story in this review (I've already done that HERE) so instead I'll focus on the quality of the book and the artwork.

Just like the Philosopher's Stone illustrated edition this is a beautiful book in every way possible, I'm sure everyone who is looking at this already owns the previous one and has a good idea what to expect but just in case you're considering buying both illustrated versions I'll give you the highlights. These books are large hardbacks with good quality glossy pages full of wonderful illustrations to go along with the familiar text of the story. I love the way the illustrations vary from tiny little images through to whole double page spreads because you just never know what you'll find when you turn over the page. These books are an experience and they beg to be read out loud with children or to have someone sit for hours just studying the pictures.

Jim Kay has really done such a fabulous job of bringing the stories to life in a different way, it would have been so easy to base these images on the movies that we're all so familiar with but he's created his own version of the world and the characters that are similar enough to be easily recognised but still completely his own versions.

I honestly could have included hundreds of pictures with this review but I've tried to narrow it down to just a few of my favourites.

Movie Trailer: A Monster Calls - Patrick Ness

I have to confess that Patrick Ness' novel A Monster Calls (which was based on an idea by the late Siobhan Dowd) has been on my to read pile for a few years now, it's one of those books that I've heard amazing things about but because I know it's going to break my heart I keep putting off reading it.

Unless you've been living under a rock you'll already know that the book is currently being turned into a movie and when I was at Walker's blogger party a few weeks ago they showed us the trailer and it looks like it's going to be fantastic. I really NEED to read this book so I can watch the movie when it comes out!

Doesn't it look fantastic? The movie is out in America on the 21st of October but according to IDMb we're going to have to wait until January 2017 to see it on screens in the UK. I'm kind of gutted that they're making us wait so long for it but I'll have absolutely no excuse for not reading the book before it releases!

Review:
As soon as I saw images of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: Illustrated Edition I knew I had to have it, as a huge fan of the series and someone who already owns several print versions as well as the ebook of each Harry Potter story there was no way I could miss out on this beautiful new edition. There is absolutely no point in me writing another review of the story (you can read my original one HERE) because I'm pretty sure that most of the people who are going to be looking at buying this book are already going to be Harry Potter fans so instead I'm going to focus on the quality of the book and the illustrations.

To put it simply this book is STUNNING. I had high expectations but was totally blown away by how beautiful this book is, it brings back the magical feeling of reading Harry Potter for the first time and I think it's definitely a perfect edition to read with children. Jim Kay has done a fantastic job of giving new life to the characters, he's managed to make them his own (which must have been quite hard to do considering how well everyone knows the actors from the movies) while still making them instantly recognisable.

The book itself is a lot larger than I expected and has me wondering if they'll have to publish the later books in more than one edition. The quality is brilliant with lovely glossy pages and gorgeous illustrated end pages. This is the kind of book that you want to treasure and it would make a perfect gift for any Harry Potter fan. I can't wait to see the illustrated editions of the rest of the series and will definitely be purchasing them as soon as they're published.
