Merry Christmas!
I just wanted to take the opportunity to wish all of my followers a very Merry Christmas, whether you celebrate the season or not I hope you have an enjoyable few days with family and friends, great food and even better books.
It's going to be quiet around here for a few days but I'll be back soon enough so Seasons Greetings and I hope the holidays bring everything you wish for! Oh and if you'd like to have a go at making your own Christmas Wreath, like the ones in my picture above, you can find my tutorial here.

Review:
The Simon's Cat videos never fail to make me laugh, even when I'm having the worst day possible I can watch pretty much any of them to put a smile on my face so of course I've been religiously buying the books as they're published. Since I currently have a new kitten in the house this seemed like the perfect time to pick Kitten Chaos back up for probably the billionth time. These are the kind of books that you can leave sat on the coffee table and flick through whenever you have a couple of minutes (my friend actually has a whole shelf of books like this in her bathroom!) but this time I sat and read from cover to cover and found myself giggling away to myself the whole way through.
Simon Tofield is obviously an experienced cat owner and he captures common personality traits over and over again in his drawings and videos. I see hints of every cat I've ever met in these books but Kitten Chaos was particularly appropriate because my kitten is incredibly good at creating mayhem. So many of these images are currently part of daily life in my house and that just made them even more amusing.
I love the videos, I love these books and I'll continue to purchase them until the author stops publishing them!

There is no way in a million years that Cassie would let me do this to her - just look at the pictures from when I tried to put her in a Christmas hat and collar & you can see from the evil look on her face that she wants to kill me! Is it wrong that I'm tempted to try it anyway though? LOL
Last but not least it wouldn't be Christmas without a new Simon's Cat video or two!

Happy Christmas!

News Roundup: Book Event, Cover Reveals, Web Chats and more
It's time for another news roundup post to share some of the news I've seen over the last week or so.
First I want to let you know about the launch event for the second instalment in Will Hill's Department 19 series - The Rising. I've been lucky enough to have already read The Rising and can tell you right now it was amazing! If you're a fan of Department 19 you want to get hold of this one ASAP trust me (watch out for my review which will be up later this week). If you want the chance to meet Will Hill check out the details below for the launch event that is being held at Waterstone's in Kensington on the 29th of March. Tickets are £3 each but I'm sure you won't be disappointed - I've been told that the event will be the same as a secret launch I got to go to last month (my write up will also be posted later this week) and if that's the case you may even get to meet a couple of D19 agents and see a T-Bone!
Bloomsbury have recently launched their new Hooked on Books Facebook page that will feature all the latest information about their YA titles. Make sure you keep an eye on the Facebook page and their Twitter account for all the latest extracts, news and even some exclusive giveaways!
The first book they are talking about is Burn Mark by Laura Powell which is being published on the 7th of June. This sounds like it will be a fantastic start to Laura's new series and I can't wait to read it! You can find out more at Laura Powell's website, her Facebook page or follow her on Twitter. According to Amazon UK we have to wait until January 2013 before we'll be able to buy the book but Maureen did post the UK cover on her Tumblr account a couple of days ago so I thought I'd share it here. What do you think? I love the fact that it matches The Name of the Star cover so well but I think I like this one even more.

Happy Christmas!
I just wanted to wish you all a very happy Christmas! I hope whatever you're doing you all have a wonderful, relaxing day & that Santa brings you lots of bookish goodies :o)
I'll be spending the next few days visiting family and friends, I expect there'll be far too much food involved and hopefully I'll be able to spend some time reading while my parents snooze away their Christmas dinners in front of the TV this afternoon lol.

Review:
I've been a massive fan of the Simon's Cat videos on YouTube for several years now so when I found out a book was being released last year it was the top of my Christmas list & I was very excited to receive a copy from my friend. This is a book I've dipped in and out of regularly throughout the year & it always manages to make me laugh, even if I'm having a bad day. Simon Tofield has perfectly captured the mischievous nature of every cat I've ever known and nearly all of the antics his cat gets up to are based on a behaviour I have seen in one of my 2 cats.
If you're a cat fan or just in need of a pick me up you can't fail to laugh at the Simon's Cat videos and the book is just the same. I'd recommend this to anyone, it makes a great coffee table book and is something you will return to again and again. The second book Simon's Cat: Beyond the Fence was released in October and once again it is at the top of my Christmas wish list! If you've not come across this series before check out the Simon's Cat website and if the videos make you laugh you can't go wrong with this book.
I couldn't resist including a couple of pictures in my review, these all struck a particular cord with me reminding me of my own cats.
My youngest cat has an obsession with climbing the curtains, she hasn't quite made it to the ceiling yet but I wouldn't be too surprised if she makes it one day
There are several pages devoted to the difficult task of getting a cat into a basket for a trip to the dreaded vets that I'm sure any cat owner will be able to relate to, I have numerous scars from scenes much like the one above!
Yes my cats do have an expensive climbing frame. Do they use it? Of course not - they'd much rather play with an empty box!

Simon's Cat - Santa Claws & Snow Business
I've been a massive fan of the Simon's Cat videos by Simon Tofiield for a few years now so I had to share the new Christmas film with you all. If you haven't seen any of the other videos I would definitely recommend you check them out on the Simon's Cat website, they never fail to cheer me up and are something I return to time and time again when I need a laugh.
Since I'm sharing Simon's Cat videos I'm going to include this one called Snow Business too as it reminds me of my cats in the garden over the last couple of weeks (the last of the snow finally melted yesterday hooray!!)
