Review: Emergency Engagement - Samanthe Beck

He needs the kind of rescue only she can provide . . .

Glass artist Savannah Smith expected a marriage proposal for Thanksgiving—just not from her strong, silent, super-hot neighbor. But when misplaced mail and a wayward can of paint lands them in a compromising position right as her family arrives for dinner, they assume he’s “The One” she’s been talking about.

Then his family shows up.

Fate dealt a crippling blow to paramedic Beau Montgomery’s heart, and he isn’t about to put it at risk again. Except, with his mother crying tears of joy over his surprise engagement to the sexy little blonde next door, he can’t bring himself to ruin her “Christmas miracle.”

Somewhere between the paint can to the head and the chaotic family trip to the ER, Beau manages to talk Savannah into being his fake fiancée long enough to survive the holidays.

If, of course, they don’t fall in love first . . .

Review:
I really love Samanthe Beck's stories, she always creates sweet and sexy romances with great characters and lots of humour and that's exactly what I was expecting from Emergency Engagement. In a lot of ways that's exactly what you get too, it starts off really well and the circumstances that lead to Savannah and Beau's families finding them in a compromising position were hilarious. I did find it a little hard to believe that the pair would be so quick to go along with a fake engagement considering they'd never even had a proper conversation before but it was fairly easy to ignore that considering how much chemistry they had and how well they got on.

Savannah is a free spirited artist, she's bright, colourful and lives life to the fullest. She's nobody's doormat so when her (ex)boyfriend treats her badly she has no problem walking away knowing that she deserves better. She immediately gained my respect for that and she was definitely the kind of girl you'd want be friends with. I loved the little hints we got to see about her work as a glass artist and really wanted to see more of that side of her life. Beau is brilliant, he's smart, funny and caring but he's not controlling and he is nothing like some of the alpha arseholes we've been seeing so much of lately. He has a really sad backstory that was pretty heartbreaking and I thought his reactions to things (until right at the very end of the book) were very realistic considering everything he'd been through. After suffering the worst kind of heartbreak he has closed himself off to the idea of a relationship, he's scared of getting hurt again and keeps everyone at a distance. He's definitely a protector though, you can see it every day in the way he deals with patients as a paramedic but also in the way he looks out for his parents and also Savannah. Savannah doesn't need someone to rescue her though and it was nice to see someone turn the tables on Beau and be the one looking after him for a change.

I actually loved these two as a couple, they fit together really well and I enjoyed the connection between them both in and out of the bedroom (although I'll admit I was expecting a little more spice considering this is a Brazen book!). What let down the story for me was the "twist" at the end, it was something I saw coming from a million miles away and I'd spent a lot of the book praying it wouldn't happen so I was incredibly disappointed when the story was so predictable. I guess I'm just sick of that particular plot device so perhaps it won't bother other people as much as it bothered me but it definitely knocked a star off my rating. I still love Samanthe Beck's writing though and I'm looking forward to reading more in this series. I'm hoping we'll get a book about Beau's paramedic partner Hunter and I'd also like to see more of Savannah's sister Sinclair.

Review: Falling for the Enemy - Samanthe Beck

Caught between a rock and a rock-hard body . . .

Salon owner Virginia Boca has declared herself celibate . . . at least until she wins the election for mayor of Bluelick, Kentucky. No hot men. No sex. And her plan to play the good girl might have worked—if the mysterious, hard-bodied stranger she’s seen around town hadn't pulled her from the street and saved her life. The least Ginny can do is offer her savior a free haircut.

But when an innocent haircut turns into hours of wickedly hot sex, former Navy SEAL Shaun Buchanan knows his plan to keep a low profile is shot. Especially once Ginny finds out he’s the current mayor's son. With her reputation and the election on the line, Ginny seems determined to keep their nightly sexcapades a secret, but Shaun’s not willing to stay in the shadows forever . . .

Review:
Falling for the Enemy is the third book in Samanthe Beck's Private Pleasures series and I enjoyed it just as much as the previous ones. Each of the books in this series have been fun, sexy romances with great characters and a fun small town setting and I've enjoyed every visit to Bluelick.

We met Ginny and Wolverine, AKA Shaun, in the previous book and I was looking forward to getting to know them better. Ginny is the town hairdresser and often underestimated because of that but she cares about Bluelick and it's residents, she spends a lot of time listening to their problems and complaints and has decided that it's time to do something about that by putting herself forward as a candidate for mayor. Shaun has only recently returned to the town he grew up in but has done his best to keep himself to himself and stay out of the public eye. He is the epitome of dark and mysterious and the chemistry between him and Ginny is irresistible. The one slight problem is that his father is the current mayor and Ginny's main opponent for the position. Ginny is scared to do anything to risk her chance of winning and the last thing she needs is a town scandal where she is caught dating her enemy's son but can she resist Shaun's charms?

I really liked both of these characters, they know exactly what they want and are willing to fight to get it. I did find myself slightly annoyed with Ginny for the way she was constantly telling Shaun that they had to keep their affair a secret and was then complaining to herself that he never stayed the night but I was having so much fun reading the story that I was able to ignore my irritation. They fit really well together as a couple and I enjoyed seeing Shaun worm his way into her affections. The one thing that could have made me enjoy the story more would have been Ginny making more of a stand and telling the rest of the town that she loved Shaun and was going to date him no matter what they thought of their relationship. I did love the way Shaun stood by her though and he certainly makes enough effort to win over anyone!

Falling for the Enemy is a steamy read that I thoroughly enjoyed and would happily recommend to contemporary romance fans. Although this book would work as a stand alone all three stories have been great so I would suggest buying them all and reading them in order so you can get to know each of the couples.

Review: Light Her Fire - Samanthe Beck

He’ll show this good girl the thrill of being bad . . .

Good girl Melody Merritt is ready to be bad. Fresh out of an unsatisfying ten-year engagement to the town golden boy, she’s determined to make up for lost time. And who better to burn her sterling reputation to the ground than Bluelick’s sinfully sexy new fire chief whose wicked gaze promises complete and utter domination? Yes, please.

Corrupting the prim and proper Little Miss Bluelick is the most action Josh Bradley’s seen since he transferred from Cincinnati to fast-track his career. He won’t let anything or anyone—not even the delectable Melody Merritt—trap him in this Kentucky-fried Mayberry, but when their searing chemistry yields an unexpected result, he realizes he’s started a blaze that's completely beyond his control . . .

Review:
I loved Private Practise when I read it last year so I was really pleased when I found out that Samanthe Beck had written further books about some of the side characters we'd been introduced to. While This is the second book in the series and the timeline runs simultaneously with the first book and even thought there is some crossover of characters I don't think it's essential to read these books in order. I would be happy to recommend both stories though because they're both fabulous small town romances with a lot of humour and plenty of super hot sex.

Josh moved to Bluelick because the promotion to Fire Chief would be good for his career, he has no intention of staying in the small town for long though and just wants to use the job as a steppingstone to a higher position back in the city. Melody is the town good girl but she's desperate to break out of her shell and live a little and who better to teach her than the sexy new guy who can't take his eyes off of her. What is supposed to be a wild and passionate fling soon becomes more important to both of them but is Melody enough to make Josh consider putting down roots in Bluelick?

The connection between Josh and Melody crackles off the page from the minute they see each other, they have fabulous chemistry and I loved the flirty banter between them in the middle of the supermarket. Despite just having ended a 10 year relationship Melody is fairly inexperienced but I loved how quick she is to go after what she wants, she is a little shy but she's not afraid to try new things or to tell Josh exactly what she needs from him. Josh is a very sexy, dominant guy who loves taking control. He can't seem to keep his hands off Melody which leads to a lot of creative experimentation so you'll definitely need a cold shower to cool down after reading this one! I loved the fact that their relationship was so straightforward, both of them are quick to admit to their feelings and neither of them tries to push the other away. There was use of one trope that irritated me a tiny bit (I can't say more without giving a spoiler) but I was happy with the way it was handled so it didn't bother me as much as it could have.

I think one of the things I love the most about this series is the humour, there were so many laugh out loud moments and I read the whole book with a smile on my face. I just can't wait to revisit Bluelick while reading Ginny and Wolverine's story!

Teasers & Excerpts:

Shaun groaned and let his head fall back, and all she could do was cling to the edge of the sink while he gave her exactly what she asked for. Thrusting, withdrawing, and thrusting again in thrilling succession, using the angle of their bodies to ensure he hit all the right spots along the way. The room spun behind her closed eyelids. A heady mix of pheromones, body heat and sex stormed her senses. With frightening speed, he had her trembling at the brink again, panting and shivering and striving for relief from the pressure building inside her. Her pulse pounded, setting off a surprisingly loud echo in her ears.

She nearly jumped out of her skin when Shaun called out, “It’s occupied.”

Holy crap, the pounding in her ears wasn’t her pulse. Somebody was knocking on the restroom door. A voice from the other side said, “Hurry up in there buddy. I gotta get back on the road.”

Shaun didn’t bother with a reply, but drove into her with renewed energy, dragging her agonizingly closer to the edge of control. Her body clenched around him in a fruitless effort to cling to the moment—to a semblance of sanity—but he thrust again and sent sanity hurtling out of reach. The pressure tightened, pulsed there for one heartbeat…two…she whimpered in the face of what waited for her, and a big, calloused hand gently covered her mouth to suppress the noise.

He withdrew and rocked forward again, then froze. His eyes drifted closed, and a groan rumbled from somewhere deep in his chest.

The pounding on the door came again. “What the hell, man?”

“I’m…not…done yet,” he growled, and unleashed a series of quick, jerky thrusts. The sink rattled on its pedestal. Between her legs, the clenching became spasms. Shaun cursed, and then groaned again, a low, long sound vibrating with relief. Hard as she tried to hold it back, her own jagged moan escaped, merging with his, outlasting it, until the high-pitched cry reverberated in the tiny room and slowly subsided.

The voice came again from the other side of the door. “Forget it. I don’t know whether you ought to burn a candle when you’re done, or set fire to the place, but I know I’m not going in. See a doctor, or something.”

Brown eyes opened and stared into hers, and she detected a gleam of humor in their depths. She returned his stare while footsteps retreated across pavement. After a moment, a vehicle door slammed and a big engine rumbled to life. Picturing some disgusted trucker opting for a nice, private outcropping of limestone along the Double A over what he imagined awaited him at the Gas ’n Go had her laughing on her inhale. The result was an inelegant snort.

He grinned down at her. “Admit it, I provide a refreshing break from rose petals and satin sheets.”

She cupped his balls at the same time she stroked him, stopping just shy of the flare of his head. “So, you’re touching yourself, and thinking of me, and…”

His head dropped back of its own accord, and his breath quickened. “I’d dream of you kneeling between my legs, opening your mouth, and letting me fuck you like that until I was the only thing you’d taste for the rest of your life.”

While they both watched, liquid beaded at the head of his cock and trembled there. He shivered when she used the pad of her thumb to swipe it, pressing down hard enough to explore the small opening. Then she brought her thumb to her mouth and licked it clean.

Eyes locked on him, she gripped his thighs, spreading them slightly, and brought her mouth so close her breath ruffled the hair around the base of his cock. “Could I trouble you to do the honors?”

Hell yes. He gripped his shaft and guided it to her lips. She opened her mouth, fully prepared to take him in, but he delayed their gratification by tracing his tip along her upper lip. “You have the softest lips, Virginia. Even before I ever kissed you, I knew they’d feel amazing.” He dragged his tip along her lower lip and couldn’t hold back a groan.

She chased him with her tongue, wetting her lips in the process. “Having them sealed around you is going to feel even better.”

He placed his hand on the top of her head, spearing his fingers through her hair. “Don’t rush me. This is my dream, remember?”

“I remember everything. Tell me what comes next.”

Why he wanted to torture himself he couldn’t say, but he wanted to savor this. “Kiss it…just the tip. With those plush lips of yours. No tongue, yet.”

She wet her lips again, puckered them, and rubbed them over the tip he held out for her. Somehow he managed to keep his eyes open, even though they wanted to roll back in his head. Then she parted her lips to take him deeper.

“Not yet,” he ground out, still hoping against hope to make this last more than three seconds.

“I can’t wait. I want to cradle the weight of you in my mouth. I want to hear you beg as I take you in.” She tightened her hold on his thighs and aimed a plaintive look at him.

“Sweet Virginia, you’ve got me so worked up I can’t trust myself. If you let me in your mouth, I’m going to own it. I’ve been fantasizing about this too long to sit by like a gentleman while you have your fun.”

Review: Best Man with Benefits - Samanthe Beck

How far can one favor go...

Logan McCade arrives at his best friend’s wedding overworked and in desperate need of a vacation, only to discover his best man duties have been...expanded. He must coax Colton’s sister out of her shell, or risk her hiding in her room all week. Logan figures he can handle one introverted bridesmaid, but he’s not expecting how much he enjoys “handling” Sophie…or how much she enjoys being handled.

Socializing has never been web designer Sophie Brooks’s strong suit, but she’s determined to shed her wallflower image and embrace the “New Sophie”—a feat made easier with the supremely sexy Logan McCade tempting her to explore all her forbidden fantasies. If she’s not careful, she just might fall for the best man.

Sophie’s sweet, sexy, and delectably awkward demeanor brings much-needed calm to Logan’s hectic life. With the nuptials only days away, Logan is forced to face the possibility that his favor to a friend might have become something else entirely…and that he’s not willing to let Sophie go. Ever.

Review:
Logan has been working his fingers to the bone and is in desperate need of a holiday so he's looking forward to getting some down time at his best friend Colton's wedding. When Colton asks Logan to look after his shy young sister Sophie Logan is happy to agree, surely keeping an eye on one woman can't be too difficult? What he isn't expecting is that the sweet teenage girl he remembered is now a fully grown and beautiful woman. As his best friend's sister Sophie couldn't be more out of bounds but the attraction he feels is impossible to resist. The chemistry between them is fantastic but can Logan find a way to juggle his hectic work life with a permanent relationship?

Seducing the Bridesmaid is part of the Wedding Dare multi-author series which has been written by five of my favourite Brazen authors. The prequel novella, Dare to Resist by Laura Kaye, sets the scene for the rest of the series and introduces us to the original couple Kady and Colton. Each of the following novels, written by Diane Alberts, Tessa Bailey, Katee Robert and Samanthe Beck, follow the same time line and take place at Kady and Colton's wedding. Each book features a different bridesmaid and sees the four of them daring each other to find a hot groomsman to have fun with for the duration of the wedding. Although the series doesn't have to be read in order I would recommend at least starting with the prequel novella before you go on to read the remaining stories in any order that takes your fancy. There is a crossover of characters and you'll see certain conversations between the friends from several different angles throughout the series and I've really enjoyed seeing how cleverly all of the books have been tied together. Best Man with Benefits by Samanthe Beck is the final story in the series following Dare to Resist, Falling for the Groomsman, Baiting the Maid of Honor and Seducing the Bridesmaid. This is also the third book in Samanthe Beck's McCade Brothers series although it doesn't matter if you've read the previous books or not.

I have to say I think they saved the best until last and Best Man with Benefits was my favourite story in the series, I've now fallen for all three of Samanthe Beck's McCade brothers and I'd highly recommend her books to anyone who is looking for a hot story with fabulous main characters and swoon worthy romance. This author is definitely on my auto-buy list and I'm looking forward to reading whatever she comes up with next.

I loved Sophie, she is such a normal every day girl, someone who has insecurities about her figure, who is shy and who doesn't like to be the centre of attention. She may be quiet in a crowd but, as Logan quickly discovers, if you get her one to one she has an adventurous streak a mile wide. Not only that but she loves to experiment in the bedroom too - you know what they say about the quiet ones? Sophie more than lives up to that saying! I could easily imagine myself being friends with Sophie and I really enjoyed seeing her coming more and more out of her shell as Logan helped her confidence grow.

Logan is a man with a plan, he has worked his butt off to build his company and make it a success and now he works non stop to keep it at the top. He has trouble letting go and handing responsibility off to anyone else but when Sophie comes along he finally starts to realise what he has been missing by spending all his time chained to a desk. Sophie reminds him what it is like to have fun and she is one distraction that he is more than happy to indulge himself in. I enjoyed everything about this romance but I think I especially loved the epilogue, each of the stories in this series has given us a hint of what is to come for the couples but Best Man with Benefits has an epilogue that ties everything together and gets the whole group back together again. If you've enjoyed the previous books then I'm sure you're going to love this one as much as I did.

Blog Tour: Wedding Dare Multi-Author Series (+ International Giveaway)

I'm thrilled to be taking part in the blog tour to celebrate the release of the multi-author Wedding Dare series. I already posted my review of the prequel novella Dare to Resist by Laura Kaye (you can read it here) but my reviews for the remaining four stories will be going up throughout the day today so make sure you keep checking back to read them!

In this post I wanted to give you a little extra information for all of the stories and share the book trailer and the fantastic giveaway that the authors have put together for you.

Dare to Resist by Laura Kaye

Trapped and tempted, this battle of wills rages all night long…

Kady Dresco and Colton Brooks click on a level that defies logic. There are only two problems. One, he’s her older brother’s irritating best friend, and two, they're bidding on the same military security services contract.

When the competition heats up, Colton is torn between wanting to strangle Kady (and her annoying brilliance) and kissing her into submission. Which is a bad idea for a million reasons, because Kady’s submission is exactly what he craves. Being trapped in a tiny motel room with the object of his darkest fantasies will require every ounce of his restraint.

Kady doesn’t want his restraint, but Colton knows better. She deserves love, marriage, and a white picket fence—three things Colton can’t give her. But her proximity and the memory of their steamy near-miss three years ago slowly destroys his resolve. And he’s not sure how much longer he can keep his hands off…or his heart closed.

Falling for the Groomsman by Diane Alberts

She’s the one that got away. He’s the one she can’t forget.

Review: Falling for the Marine - Samanthe Beck

Pretending to be in love has never felt so sexy.

USMC helicopter pilot Michael McCade has two goals: Get his damn back into alignment and keep his nose clean until his ultra-conservative commanding officer clears him to fly again. The doctor-recommended massage therapy seems like a necessary evil if he's to return to the cockpit, but when his too-hot-to-handle neighbor turns out to be his masseuse, he strays from the straight and narrow in a major way.

Former military brat Chloe Kincaid is looking for an ego-boosting, no strings attached hook up. But when her positively panty-melting neighbor (aka Major Hottie) shows up on her massage table, their off-the-charts chemistry overrides her no-military-men policy until they're caught. Now they have to fake an engagement to avoid the fallout, but can a girl who runs from attachments pretend to be in love with a straight-arrow soldier without falling hard?

Review:
Michael is a helicopter pilot with the USMC, after injuring his back he has been grounded and all he can think about is getting back to full strength so he can fly again. He's not convinced that massage therapy is going to make any difference to his back but he's willing to try anything and it doesn't hurt that his hot new neighbour Chloe is his masseuse. Chloe is a free spirit, she loves to travel and never spends too long in one place, she isn't looking for love and the last thing she needs is a relationship that is going to tie her down. She is more than up for a hot fling though and Michael is impossible to resist. When the pair of them are caught in a compromising position they find themselves forced into a fake relationship so they don't destroy both of their careers. Can Michael convince Chloe that his feelings for her are anything but fake and get her to take a chance on a real relationship?

I have become a huge fan of Samanthe Beck since discovering her earlier this year and I have to say Falling for the Marine was my favourite of her books so far. This story is a sequel to Lover Undercover and Michael is the brother of previous hero Trevor but although I would happily recommend both stories it isn't essential to read them in order and this would work well as a stand alone. If you're looking for a fun contemporary romance full of humour, great characters, hot chemistry and sweet romance then you don't want to miss this.

I absolutely loved Michael, he is pretty much everything you could wish for in a guy - sweet, funny, caring, protective and sexy as sin. He loves his job, is proud to serve his country and his nickname "Major Hottie" suits him perfectly! Chloe is a really sweet girl, she has been through a lot and that has made her wary of getting hurt again but there is no way she can resist Michael's charm or the attraction she feels for him. This couple is incredibly hot together but they also have a strong connection and become good friends. I knew I was going to love this book from the opening chapters and the circumstances surrounding their first meeting and I don't think the smile left my face until I reached the end. I'm so pleased that we've still got the youngest McCade brother Logan's story to look forward to. His book is already at the top of my wish list and it doesn't even have a title yet!

Review: Lover Undercover - Samanthe Beck

He’s undercover. She’s in over her head.

Yoga instructor Kylie Roberts is the good twin. At least she was—until an accident forces Kylie to step into her twin’s sexy stilettos at a posh Hollywood “men’s club." But nothing could've prepared Kylie for the dead body in the club’s parking lot or the ridiculously hot detective who insists the killer is targeting her regulars.

Detective Trevor McCade needs Kylie’s help to draw out the killer. It means long nights undercover and long dances where Kylie’s body tempts him with sensual promises. Dances that leave them both wanting more. But despite Kylie's hidden identity and the danger lurking in the shadows, it’s only a matter of time before Kylie and Trevor take this undercover operation under the covers . . .

Review:
Kylie may look identical to her twin sister Stacy but they couldn't be more different when it comes to their personalities. Where Stacy loves the limelight and dreams of becoming a famous actress Kylie is happier to live a quiet life and just wants to make her yoga studio a success. But when Stacy has an accident and breaks her leg Kylie is forced to take her sister's place as a stripper in an exclusive men's club. The charade gets a whole lot more complicated when Kylie finds a dead body in the car park and it comes to light that someone is murdering Stacy's regular clients. Kylie is forced to work with undercover detective Trevor as he tracks down the killer but can she keep her own identity a secret, especially when things are heating up between them?

Having enjoyed Samanthe Beck's debut novel Private Practise so I was looking forward to reading her second book Lover Undercover. She has certainly proved that she can write sexy contemporary romances and I loved the chemistry between Kylie and Trevor in this story. I'm going to admit that I'd guessed who the killer was long before the big reveal because there weren't that many suspects to choose from but that didn't stop me from enjoying the romance as it developed. I also liked the side story with Stacy and Trevor's partner Ian, in fact you can read a follow up story about that couple in the novella Wicked Games which is Samanthe Beck's contribution to the Lovers Unmasked anthology and it's well worth checking out if you haven't come across it already.

Trevor is a great guy, he's a sexy homicide detective who is very sweet and protective. He knows that Kylie is hiding something and is determined to get to the bottom of it but he is attracted to her and doesn't want to scare her off before he convinces her to take a chance on him. I loved seeing the attraction between them reach boiling point in the club because they were forced to work so closely together with Trevor posing as one of Kylie's private clients. Kylie really didn't want to take Stacy's place at the strip club but she feels like she has no other option and once they've started the lie it is very hard to back out of it. She is so shy in the beginning but I loved seeing how much her confidence grew throughout the story and the way that the extra confidence helped her learn to stand up for herself with Stacy. Kylie really has been a bit of a push over when it comes to her sister so it was about time for her to stand on her own two feet and do what she wanted for a change. I think what I liked most about her relationship with Trevor is that he didn't try to change her, she was worried because he was a police officer and he thought she was a stripper but her job never seemed to bother him and he wasn't trying to pressure her to change.

Lover Undercover is an incredibly hot story, Trevor and Kylie have scorching chemistry that builds in intensity until they just can't help themselves. There is a good amount of action and I'm glad to say that there was no unneeded relationship drama. You'll also find plenty of amusing banter to keep a smile on your face. I will say that Trevor doesn't always follow official police procedure so if you're a stickler for the rules then this may not be for you but when the story is as much fun as this one was then I'm more than happy to see the rules get bent!
