Review:
Wrecked was my last read of 2013 and what a way to end the year on a reading high because I absolutely loved this book! I love a good friends to lovers story and this was a brilliant one with some of the most likeable characters I've come across in a long time.

Abby and Zach have been best friends since they were child stars on a TV show together but Abby never had the slightest clue that Zach was head over heels in love with her. Abby's childhood was a bit of a nightmare with a pushy mother who wanted her daughter to be a star and didn't care what it cost her to achieve those goals as long as Abby was making lots of money. After leaving home when she was just 17 Abby became very independent and has worked hard at building up her catering company, she lives her life by set routines and likes to plan everything well in advance after a childhood of chaos. Zach is the only person who has never let her down, no matter what else has happened in her life he is always there for her and they have an incredibly strong friendship. He knows her inside out and when she starts to question things in her life he is the one who knows exactly how to push her out of her comfort zone by buying her the Wreck This Journal and helping her set about shaking up her world.

I loved Abby, she is so down to earth and just a genuinely nice girl who deserved to find happiness. The friendship she has with Zach was just fabulous, they have such a strong bond and obviously care deeply for each other. Zach moved across the country to set up his home near to Abby, he is a successful tattoo artist (have I mentioned before how much I love guys with tattoos?) who loves his job and is happy with his life in general. The only thing missing is Abby's love but he has always felt it was better to have her in his life as a friend rather than not at all. When Abby starts showing signs that she might be interested in taking things further between them he jumps at the chance to show her how good things could be between them. If there was ever a fictional character that I want to bring to life and have step out of the page and into my life it is Zach, he is pretty much perfect and totally swoon worthy. Scenes with him and Abby were scorching hot - especially when he paints a temporary tattoo on her body, that one made me melt!

There is just so much to enjoy about Wrecked, the creative use of the diary, the fun banter and humour, the great bond of friendship that turns into red hot chemistry and everything in between. There was one moment when I worried that a certain event had been included just to create extra drama but Shiloh Walker turned that trope on it's head and the way Abby reacted was utterly perfect. I honestly don't think I could have enjoyed this story more and I can't tell you how excited I was when I read on the author's website that she will be writing at least 2 stories about Zach's brothers & possibly more if those do well. I know I'll be putting those books to the top of my wish list as soon as they're written and I can't wait to revisit Zach's family!

Review:
Retro Demonology is a free short story that can be read online HERE. It is a prequel to Jana Oliver's Demon Trapper's series but it is only a few pages long so don't expect too much detail. I absolutely love this series so it's one I'd highly recommend but if you're not sure about whether to start it or not then this should give you enough of a taster to decide whether you want to try Forsaken (that's the UK name, it was released as The Demon Trapper's Daughter in the US) or not.

This short introduces us to Riley Blackthorn, she is the daughter of a master demon trapper and also his apprentice. This is the first time she has been send out to trap a demon on her own without her father there as back up so she is nervous but determined to do a good job. I'm not going to go into any more detail than that so you'll have to read the story for yourself but there are plenty of giggles along the way and watch out for the clever use of a child's sippy cup.

Obviously Jana Oliver goes into a lot more detail with her world building in the full length novels, Riley is one of my favourite YA heroines and if you read the series you'll meet the absolutely delicious Denver Beck who I may have more than a little crush on! Retro Demonology is a fab little freebie from one of my favourite series and reading it has made me want to pick up Forsaken and start a re-read!

Review:
When Samuel escaped the Archives five years ago the only thing he regretted was leaving his best friend Piper behind. He has made a new life for himself though and has worked his way up to Sergeant in the King's Sentry. When his work on a series of grizzly murders brings him back into contact with Piper he realises his friend has grown into a strong and beautiful woman and he is desperate to find a way to make her leave the Archivists Guild to be with him. Piper never forgave Samuel for leaving her, she couldn't understand his desperate need to escape and since he left she has thrown herself into her training to become an archivist. She knows that using her abilities will cost her greatly but with Jack the Ripper on a killing spree she has to do whatever she can to stop him taking more victims. Can the two of them work together to catch a killer before he strikes again and what will they do when their past catches up with them both?

I'm a huge fan of Christine d'Abo's erotic romances so when I found out that she was writing a steampunk series I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of Gilded Hearts. I loved the concept of the world she has created and I found the idea of the archivists very intriguing. They use their abilities to collect the memories of people who have died - usually only murder victims or important members of society - but when channelling the memories they also live through the experiences themselves. I can't imagine a job where you constantly have to relive horrific murders as if you were inside the victim while it happened so it's no wonder the archivists would go crazy if the memories weren't later removed. The memory extraction process was deliciously creepy and the story as a whole was a lot darker than I expected it to be. I liked the fact that the removal process wasn't completely accurate and often cost the archivist some of their personal memories too because it felt more realistic. It was hard to believe that anyone would choose to be an archivist but as you get to learn more about how the apprentices came to join the guild you discover that they were never really given much choice in the matter.

I found the world a really interesting one but unfortunately I struggled to understand the set up, there were a lot of times when I was left wondering why things happened a certain way or where I wanted a more detailed explanation. Although I found the way memories played a part in the story was really cleverly done I didn't like the fact that we got to see so many intimate memories belonging to complete strangers - those moments didn't seem to add anything to the story and just made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. I think it was partly my difficulties with the world building and those memories in particular that made it so hard to connect with either of the main characters. It took a long time for me to really start to care about them and become invested in the outcome of their story. I'm happy to say that things really started to fall into place for me in the last third of the book though and now that I'm getting comfortable with the world I'm more excited about reading the next book in the series. I think this series has a lot of potential and I'm hoping that things will continue to improve in Quicksilver Soul.

Review: Trouble - Non Pratt

Review:
Trouble is published in the UK and the US on the 6th of March 2014. I never usually review books quite so early but I just couldn't resist starting Non Pratt's debut novel. I have to be honest here and tell you that I've known Non for nearly four years now and consider her a friend. I've tried really hard not to let that effect my review but I think it's only fair to mention it.

Trouble is a fantastic coming of age story, it is a book about family, friendships and what can happen when you make a stupid mistake. Hannah is smart, funny and likes to have a good time with her friends. She is also 15 and just found out she is pregnant. Aaron is the new boy in school who tries to keep to himself and is hiding something from his past that he doesn't want anyone else to find out. The two strike up an unlikely friendship and when Hannah realises how much trouble she is in Aaron steps up and pretends to be the father of her baby so he can support her. Now the pair find themselves juggling school gossip, Hannah's pregnancy and revision for their GCSEs.

I have to tell you how spot on Non was when she created these characters, their voices are so authentic that it would be easy to believe that they are real people. Hannah is pretty much the complete opposite of me as a teen but I knew girls who were exactly like her and I loved the fact that Non takes such a realistic approach to teenagers and sex. She doesn't try to hide what teenagers get up to and although she doesn't glamorise it, she doesn't condemn it either. Books about teenage pregnancy can be quite controversial but I think this kind of story is incredibly important and if it makes one girl think twice before having unprotected sex then that's a wonderful thing. We get to see the highs and the lows of Hannah's pregnancy and I loved how true to life her emotions were, it felt like you were going through the experience right alongside her and I admired her for the way she dealt with everything that happened.

As much as I loved Hannah I think Aaron was my favourite character. The story is told from dual points of view so you get to see exactly what he was thinking as he volunteered to be Hannah's baby daddy. You know from very early on that something terrible happened at his old school but it takes quite a long time before he opens up enough to share any of the details. His guilt and hurt over that event is what pushes him into trying to help Hannah, he wants to atone for mistakes in the past and this seems like the perfect way to do it. It was interesting to see Aaron try to fit in at a new school but one of the things I enjoyed most was the friendship be builds with Neville, a resident at the care home where he volunteers. That's another thing that is so great about this novel - the wonderful and well developed side characters.

Trouble is a fantastic debut, one that tackles difficult subjects but does so with sensitivity. It has plenty of humour to lighten the tone but not so much that it makes light of the topics it is dealing with. Non Pratt may be a new name in UKYA contemporary fiction but it's one we're going to be hearing a lot about in the future and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Review:
When Risk and his team of Navy SEALs are sent on a top secret black ops mission in Mexico they have no idea how much trouble they are about to land in. Bad intel and a possible betrayal turns their well planned mission into a complete nightmare and with the government needing to deny all involvement the team has to take the fall. Dishonourably discharged from the Navy with their reputations in tatters the men have to find a new path. That's where the Justiss Alliance comes in offering them all the chance to use their special skills to bring about justice for those who can't find it for themselves. The Justiss Alliance operates by their own rules and has it's own code of honour - they're willing to break all the rules as long as it means achieving the right results.

As soon as I heard about Tina Wainscott's Justiss Alliance series I knew I wanted to read it so I couldn't wait to start Wild Hearts the prequel novella. This story is very short (around 70 pages) so I'll warn you now there isn't much of a story here. You do get to follow the team on their mission to Mexico to see exactly how things went down and how badly they were treated afterwards even though they'd just been following orders, that only takes around 20% of the book though so doesn't go into a huge amount of detail. The rest of the time is spent introducing the five main characters Risk, Rath, Saxby, Knox and Julian. The men have just returned home and are struggling to adjust to their new situation and being known as failures instead of heroes. They had to sign a non-disclosure agreement so they can't even tell their families about what actually happened to set the record straight. I really enjoyed getting to see a little about each of their backgrounds, the reasons they joined the SEALs in the first place and what compels them to take up Chase's offer of a job with the Justiss Alliance.

Wild Hearts is an interesting start to the series, it doesn't have as much of a story as I was expecting but it is a great introduction to the characters and I have high hopes for the rest of the series. Each of these characters will take the lead in one book where they'll get to find their own happily ever after starting with Risk in Wild on You which is out in February.

Review:
I'm a huge fan of this series and after the shocking ending of Night Blade I was desperate to get my hands on Broken Blade. I'll warn you now that this review will probably contain spoilers for previous books so if you're not up to date with the series then you probably want to look away now. Not before I tell you that this is an absolutely fabulous urban fantasy series though, trust me if you haven't started it yet then you need to get yourself a copy of Blade Song immediately! Fans of kick ass heroines and authors like Ilona Andrews and Patricia Briggs will LOVE the Colbana Files. Now, back to my review (and potential spoilers for Night Blade so now is the time to look away if you haven't read it!).

I'm sure anyone who read the previous book has been just as desperate as I was to find out how Kit is coping with the aftermath of her horrific experiences. She went through hell and even though she survived she is completely and utterly broken. J.C. Daniels doesn't take the easy way out on this one and she shows us just how hard it is for Kit to pull herself back from the depths of despair. Kit has always been a fighter but this time she has just given up, she is pushing away everyone who cares about her and has gone into hiding at Wolf Haven. My heart hurt for her and the beginning of the book really tugs on your emotions as you see what she is going through. Kit has been broken before though and surviving only made her stronger, it takes a lot for her to pick herself back up all over again but our girl has a core of steel and nothing is going to keep her down for too long.

I was so incredibly proud of Kit for the way she starts to put her life back together, it's not all plain sailing and she still has a lot of pain and anger to work through but she's made a good start. I think one of the things I appreciated most was seeing how the events had effected not just Kit but also those around her. Damon feels so guilty for not protecting her and Kit has anger towards him for the same reason even though logically she knows there is nothing he could have done. It was interesting to see how people reacted to Kit and how their attitude towards her had changed, the shifters in particular can't even meet her eyes any more which made me incredibly angry. I have to admit I was surprised at their reasoning though, I thought it was because they thought she was damaged goods but the truth was much more understandable.

Obviously Broken Blade is an incredibly emotional read, it had me close to tears on numerous occasions and really put me through the wringer but I loved it all the more for not taking the easy way out. Even though this story is the most emotional one of the series that doesn't mean there is any less ass kicking and when Kit comes out fighting she does it in style. There are a lot of things she is having to relearn about herself but she will always be a warrior deep down and she proves that to herself and everyone else by the end of the book. She still has a way to go in the recovery process but she has made good progress and it left me feeling hopeful that she'll be back and stronger than ever before too long. I'm already dying to get my hands on the next instalment to the series so I don't know how I'm going to survive another year long wait. This really has become one of my favourite series and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Review:
Before reading this review please bare in mind that it is practically impossible to review this book without giving a major spoiler for the previous ones (Hard Bitten and Drink Deep in particular) so while this review won't contain spoilers for Biting Cold you may not want to carry on reading if you're not at this point in the series. Having said that I would like to encourage you to give the series a try if you haven't already, it's one of my favourites and I loved jumping back into Merit's world! Look away now if you want to avoid spoilers though.

When I think about how much I love this series I'm amazed it has taken me so long to get around to reading Biting Cold. I don't even have a good excuse considering how thrilled I was by Ethan's return at the end of Drink Deep! I guess the good thing about putting it off is that I already have the next 2 books and a novella ready to start reading though, I hate the delay between series books so they should keep me going for a little while. Bearing in mind it had 2 years since I read Drink Deep I was surprised at how easily Chloe Neill was able to suck me back into her world, I was worried that I'd have forgotten what was going on but she was able to recap enough to remind me of the important things without bogging down the story with too much extra information. It was like catching up with old friends, you know the kind where you can go months without seeing each other but the moment you meet up it's like you were never apart?

Anyway, let's get back to my review! I wasn't too sure what to expect from this book since my friends all seem to either love or hate it but I'm happy to say I really enjoyed it. I knew there were going to be big problems to deal with thanks to Mallory's previous actions and I was worried that she would never go back to being the girl I loved at the beginning of the series. The things she has done are pretty unforgivable and she still has worse up her sleeve in this instalment. Thankfully she does eventually realise what she was in the wrong and although she has a long way to go she has made a start at atoning for her actions. It's going to take her a long time to put things right and I'm not sure if her friendship with Merit will ever get back to the way it used to be but I have hope for her now which is good.

I have always had a thing for Ethan, even though there have been times when he acted like an arrogant ass and made me want to slap him there has just been something about him that I love. The chemistry between him and Merit is fantastic and I love the way she always stands up to him and puts him in his place. After his miraculous return I had high hopes that they would finally get their relationship back on track in this book but frustratingly Ethan has other ideas. Although I understood his reasons for backing off I still wanted to throttle him, he knows Merit is more than capable of standing up to him when she needs to so he should have trusted in her more. What I did really like is that Merit doesn't let him get away with pushing her to one side, she knows what she wants from him and she will fight to get it. Hopefully things will go a little smoother for them in the next book.

There is plenty of action in Biting Cold and some very interesting developments with the world that guarantee to make things interesting as the series continues. I would have liked to have seen more of Merit's grandfather, Jeff and Catcher but it was great to see more of the shifters and we spend a lot of time with the vampires that Merit has become friends with. I'm very curious to see what direction things will take after the latest revelations and there is no way I'll be waiting another 2 years before I read the next book!

Review:
I've given up on trying to write coherent reviews for any of the books in this series - it just isn't possible for me to stop fangirling long enough to put my thoughts into any sensible order! Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has always been my favourite book in the series and that hasn't changed. The series starts to get darker in this one and knowing all the things that are going to happen in the later books just makes you appreciate the characters even more on a re-read.

I love pretty much everything about this book. Of course you have the fantastic friendship between Harry, Ron and Hermione but there were moments I was annoyed with the way the boys treated her. To be honest I think their reactions were pretty spot on for their age though so that doesn't bother me too much. Seeing Hagrid as a teacher is great and the interaction between Buckbeak and Malfoy at his first lesson was hilarious. I loved Sirius and Lupin from the beginning and the antics between Crookshanks and Scabbers never fails to make me laugh. I'm still determined that one day I will have a huge ginger tom cat and I WILL call him Crookshanks LOL.

The Weasleys never fail to lighten up the story and although I particularly love Fred and George it was great to see a bit more of Giny in this one. The idea of the Marauders Map is utterly brilliant and I still think "I solemnly swear I'm up to no good" is perfect for a tattoo. Between the map and the Time-Turner J.K. Rowling is always adding wonderful creations to the world she has built so you really never can tell what she's going to throw at you next. I may be incredibly behind on the massive group read but I'm looking forward to continuing with the series.

Review:
When Mercedes wins an all expenses paid cruise trip the only reason she decides to go is so she can use the opportunity to raise money for her children's charity. They have the opportunity to buy the perfect property to build a safe and secure play area for children in need but are short on funds. The last thing she needs is to be distracted by the sexy millionaire Lucas but since he seems happy to help her with her goal she relaxes enough to let him slip past her defences. What she doesn't realise is that Lucas is also bidding on the same piece of land that she wants so desperately. What will happen when she discovers who he really is and the fact that he's been keeping secrets from her?

Seducing Her Rival was a sexy read and I enjoyed both the banter and the chemistry between Lucas and Mercedes. In a lot of ways the two of them are complete opposites, their backgrounds couldn't be more different and neither could their circumstances but they were both influenced by events in their past that have made them incredibly passionate about their different projects. Both of them want to do good and they're prepared to work hard to achieve their goals.

Although I liked both of the characters and there were things I enjoyed about the story this didn't end up being an amazing read. I'm not even quite sure why it missed the spot for me, on the surface it should have pretty much everything I'm looking for in a contemporary romance but unfortunately, it didn't wow me. I had trouble connecting with both of the main characters so even though I admired their plans I didn't feel particularly invested in seeing them achieve them. I was also annoyed at Lucas for continuing his relationship with Mercedes after he realised who she was, I think if he'd come clean as soon as he worked it out I would have had more respect for him but it felt a bit like he was playing with her after that.

I didn't dislike the story though and it was a quick and relatively fun read so it might be worth giving it a try. Obviously this story worked a lot better for other people than it did for me so I'd recommend reading other reviews before you make up your mind about it.

Review:
If, like me, you're a fan of Braden then you won't want to miss Castle Hill. I fell head over heels for Braden in On Dublin Street and as much as I've enjoyed getting to know the other characters in this series he's still my favourite so of course I jumped at the chance of spending more time with him and Joss in this novella. My only complaint was that it was too short and I could have happily carried on reading.

I think that one of the things I loved most about the story is that it was Braden's turn to mess up, as much as his actions annoyed me at one point I think the fact that he makes mistakes just makes him feel even more real than he did before. Besides, after all the times Joss pushed him away in On Dublin Street, I think he was due a freak out of his own! What was also great was seeing how much Joss has grown up and has started to deal with her issues, things that would have sent her running before she is now able to take in her stride and I was pleased with the way she has become more secure in their relationship. They've certainly come a long way as a couple since they first met and their bond is stronger than ever at the end of this novella.

I don't want to say too much about the story so I'll just tell you that there are some fabulously sweet and poignant moments between them, there is also plenty of their trademark banter and of course it wouldn't be Braden and Joss if there wasn't plenty of steam! I love Samantha Young's writing and this has just made me even more eager to read Before Jamaica Lane when it publishes later this month.

Review:
I'm a huge fan of Laura Kaye's writing style so I've been looking forward to reading her Hard Ink series ever since I first heard about it. Hard As It Gets is a great start to the series and it introduces us to five fabulous alpha heroes that I can't wait to spend more time with!

After a shocking betrayal that cost the lives of half of his team Rixey and his remaining four men were dishonourably discharged from the military. Since then Rixey has closed himself off from his friends and is trying to rebuild his life as a tattoo artist working alongside his brother Jeremy. When Becca comes to him asking for help locating her missing brother Charlie he turns her away, she is the daughter of the man who betrayed them all and cost him his career so the last thing he wants is to get involved with her or her family. Walking away isn't as easy as he expects it to be though and his honour won't allow him to leave Becca in danger with nobody to protect her. As he starts to investigate he realises that Charlie's disappearance might be linked to what happened to him and his men. If he can get the team to work together and rescue Charlie they may just be able to help clear their names in the process.

I have to say I liked Rixey immediately, I have a bit of a thing for military heroes so that's no surprise but throw in the fact that he's also a tattoo artist and of course I'm completely sold! I will say I was a little disappointed that the tattoo parlour doesn't play much of a role in the story BUT that isn't a major problem when you are given five ex-army hunks to drool over! I also loved getting to know Jeremy and really hope we're going to see his story at some point in the series along with the other team members. Rixey's team have had a rough time of it and things haven't been helped by the fact that they've spent the last year out of contact, it takes time for them to work out their issues but I loved the bond between them and the way they all have each other's backs. I'm definitely looking forward to getting to know them all better but I've already claimed Marz, his attitude to everything he has been through completely won me over and I'm positive he's going to be my favourite character.

Rixey is an incredibly protective guy, he looks out for his brother, his men and of course for Becca. He will do whatever it takes to keep everyone safe even if that means putting himself at risk. He has spent the last year in a holding pattern putting off making major decisions about his life and letting things pass him by but Becca coming to him for help forces him to start moving forward and take action again. For the first time in ages he feels like he has a purpose and that they might be able to get to the bottom of what happened to them and clear their names. It was good to see him start to be more proactive and to turn to his friends for help rather than push them away. Becca is a strong woman who copes well with everything that gets thrown at her. Her whole world is turned upside down but she takes most things in her stride and she was incredibly brave considering the circumstances. I loved the chemistry between the two of them, even with Rixey's reluctance to get involved with the daughter of a man he blames for everything that happened to them it was obvious he wouldn't be able to resist her for long. They make a great couple and I enjoyed watching them spend time together.

Hard As It Gets has everything I want in a romantic suspense - a great group of characters with a brotherly bond, a sexy hero and a heroine who is strong enough to stand up to him, action, mystery and suspense, an ongoing storyline that left me eager to continue the series but not screaming in frustration because of an evil cliffhanger and an adorable puppy who added humour to the story with it's antics. Laura Kaye is on to another winner with this series!

Review:
I can always rely on Felicity Heaton when I'm looking for a hot paranormal romance with engaging characters and she has outdone herself with Kissed by a Dark Prince. This is the first book in her new Eternal Mates series and I'm already looking forward to getting my hands on the next book. Although this is set in the same world as her Vampire Erotic Theatre series there is currently no crossover of characters (I believe previous characters will make an appearance in the 2nd book Claimed by a Demon King though) so this can easily be read as a stand alone story.

While the VET series focuses mainly on the vampires living in the Vampirerotique theatre and their mates Kissed by a Dark Prince allows us to explore the wider world of the elves, fae and demons. It turns out that the elves are the forefathers of the vampires, the race withdrew from the human world to one of the demon dimensions when some of their members started turning dark, eventually evolving into vampires. Loren is prince of the elves and he has been at war with his brother Vain for centuries doing whatever it takes to protect his people from Vain's evil schemes. He had given up hope of finding his eternal mate but after being badly hurt and left for dead he bites Olivia, needing blood to heal his injuries, and accidentally activates the bond between them. As much as he has longed to find her for centuries he knows that Vain will use his mate against him and he doesn't want to put Olivia in harms way so feels his only option is to find a way to break their bond.

I loved Loren, he's everything you want from a hero - strong, commanding and sexy he is an alpha male who knows what he wants but thankfully he doesn't have to behave like an ass to get it. He well respected by his people and protective of them and of Olivia. One of the things I really liked about him was how he tries so hard to do right by Olivia, he goes out of his way to make sure she is comfortable and puts himself in danger so that she can remain in familiar surroundings where she feels safe. Even when he starts to develop feelings for her and wants them to complete their bond he never pressures her because he wants her to make the decision freely. That doesn't mean he won't use all the skills he has at his disposal to show her how good it could be between them though! Olivia is another character I found easy to like, she is a scientist so has a natural curiosity about Loren and the elves which makes her want to learn more about them and the dimension they have made home. I was pleased to see her making sensible choices and that she was willing to own up to her mistakes rather than automatically blaming everything on Loren.

Alongside the main couple we have been introduced to some interesting side characters that I'm looking forward to getting to know better. I have a feeling Oliva's friend Sable might be the heroine of book 2 and that things are about to get very interesting for her. She works for the demon-hunting organisation Archangel but her role is much more hands on than Olivia research background so it'll be interesting to get to see another side to them too. I loved Loren's second in command Bleu so hope we'll get to see more of him as the series continues and there is one particular male that I'm already dying to get to know better but I can't tell you his name without giving a spoiler. Kissed by a Dark Prince is a fantastic start to this new series and Claimed by a Demon King is already at the top of my wish list even though there is currently no release date and we don't even have confirmation of who the main couple will be!

Review:
I waited a long time for the final book in the Vampire Erotic Theatre series, Snow was one of my favourite characters from the very first book so I have been eagerly waiting for his story and to meet the woman who could bring him back from the edge of bloodlust. I was so invested in the outcome that I was actually nervous to read it though and I ended up putting off reading it for months after I had a copy because I was worried it wouldn't live up to my expectations. I should have known better though, Felicity Heaton has never let me down before and she didn't this time either, in fact Unleash is now my favourite instalment of the series!

Fans of the series have all seen how much Snow struggles with his bloodlust, how close he is to losing control forever and how worried his brother Antoine is about him. I loved the bond between the two brothers in Antoine's story (Seduce) and it was great to see more of their story through Snow's eyes in this one. They have a dark and tortured past and Snow has never forgiven himself for the things he did to Antoine and the rest of their family when the bloodlust had overtaken him. Snow doesn't believe he can be saved, he longs for death and the only thing keeping him alive is his promise to Antoine, he doesn't feel worthy of forgiveness and doesn't think that he will ever be able to gain full control of his dark side. Although the darkness is always close to the surface we have also seen evidence of a softer side to Snow, the way he is so protective when it comes to Antoine but also the way he interacts with the mates of his fellow theatre owners. Snow never sees the good in himself though and spends his time punishing himself for actions in the past.

What Snow doesn't realise is the effect his actions have had on others outside of his family though and he has completely forgotten meeting Aurora when they were both just children. Aurora has spent centuries watching over Snow from a distance and she has suffered for every single sin he has committed but in spite of that she sees the good in him and wants to give him the chance to save himself. It is completely forbidden for her to have direct contact with Snow but he needs the comfort she can offer him desperately and she has to do what she can to help him. It was her act of compassion when they were children that doomed him to a life of hell and although it cost her deeply too she still feels guilty about the part she played in his destruction. Now she has one final chance to make things right but if things go wrong it will cost them both everything.

I don't want to say too much more because I think you're best going into this book knowing as little as possible. What I will say is that I love Snow even more now than I did in the past which is saying something since he was always my favourite. I worried that no heroine would be good enough for him but Aurora is a fantastic match. She is strong enough to stand up to her man, willing to put her life on the line to fight for him and brave enough to risk it all for the things she loves the most. Unleash is a fabulous conclusion to the series and it was great to get a glimpse of the rest of the characters we've come to know and love and see how they have all become such a close knit family.

Review:
Ashley has every intention of seeing the New Year in with a bang and when she realises her ex-best friend Ethan is back in town there is only one man she wants to celebrate with. Ethan may have broken her heart years ago but this is her chance to get him out of her system once and for all with a night of hot sex and no commitments. Ethan has returned home for the holidays to visit his family but the last thing he'll ever do is move back to a town he hates. He never forgot Ashley though so if she's looking for a night of passion he'll make sure she has one she'll never forget, as long as she realises that he's not going to stick around afterwards. Both Ashley and Ethan are quite clear that this is a one night only deal but somehow once just isn't enough and the more time they spend together the deeper they both get. Can they find a way to make things work long term or is someone going to end up broken hearted all over again?

I love friends to lovers stories so I had high hopes for this one and I'm happy to say Diane Alberts hit the spot perfectly. Ethan and Ashley were best friends throughout school until a misunderstanding caused Ethan to walk away from Ashley forever. She didn't understand what had happened and spent months trying to get him to talk to her again until he moved away for college and she hasn't seen him since. Nine years on Ashley is still furious with Ethan for breaking her heart but she is determined to have a taste of the man she always wanted. Ethan has grown up a lot since the day he pushed Ashley out of his life, he realises now how unfair his actions were and he feels guilty for hurting her. I liked the fact that he was man enough to own his actions and apologise to Ashley, he knew he was in the wrong and doesn't try to blame anyone else for his mistake. Ashley may be mad at him but she accepts his apology and is willing to give him another chance to be her friend.

At around 100 pages this novella is short and sweet but it's full of great banter and plenty of steam. Diane Alberts packs a lot of emotion into her stories so as much as things develop fairly quickly between the characters the story is still believable and fun to read. It's easy to forgive fast relationship development in a novella, especially when characters have such a strong history and connection as these two did. If you're looking for a sexy holiday story that can be read when you don't have much time on your hands then you can't go wrong with this one. Starting on New Years Eve Kiss Me at Midnight is perfect for this time of year and it's the kind of story that I'll probably come back to and reread in the future.
