Review:
This is a fantastic book for any Harry Potter fan. Although it contains loads of interesting facts about the movies the real draw to this set is the light up wand and the 4 fold out maps containing details from the official Marauder's Map. What makes it so much fun is that each of the map pages is full of hidden secrets written in invisible ink that only become clear when you shine the ultraviolet light of the wand over the pages. Feel like Harry as you follow footsteps through the corridors to see who you'll find at the end of the trail and don't forget to look for secret messages and drawings hidden in the artwork.

You can even use the invisible ink pen hidden inside the wand to add your own details! There's actually an extra, completely blank, map at the back of the book for you to create your own design and hide personalised secret messages on. There's definitely a lot of fun to be had with this book for kids of all ages, even the adult ones LOL. The batteries in the wand seem to be holding up pretty well so far but you can buy replacements too so this isn't a product with a limited life span and you'll be able to come back to it again and again.

Review:
This book and model kit is a perfect Christmas present for any Star Wars fans in your life, young or old. Ignore the fact that it's marketed towards boys though because girls can have just as much fun making the model and to act like only boys can be Star Wars fans is actually pretty insulting!

This is a book of two halves, one side is a fairly small booklet but one that is packed full of information about BB-8 and has lots of puzzles like word searches and quizzes for youngsters to fill in. There are even instructions on how to draw your own BB-8 droid. To be honest this booklet is aimed at a younger audience and as an adult I was far more interested in making the model but I'm planning on buying a second copy of the book to give my nephew for Christmas & I think he'll love it.

The other side of the book contains several sheets of foam board with all the pieces you need to make your own BB-8 model. The pieces are easy to pull out (you may want to use the end of a pencil to push out the smaller parts) and the instructions were clear and easy to follow so I had no problem putting the model together. I'd recommend taking your time, reading each step before you get started and only removing the pieces from the book as you need them so you don't mix anything up. If you do that you'll be finished in no time.

The finished model is much bigger than I expected it to be and surprisingly sturdy so it makes a great addition to my bookshelves. I like the fact that BB-8's head is moveable too. This set will definitely be a hit with Star Wars fans young and old, more for the model than the puzzles but as a whole you'll get a couple of hours of entertainment out of them and you end up with your own BB-8 model at the end so it's a winner.

Review:
If you've seen the first Where's the Wookiee book then you'll know exactly what to expect from this one but in case you haven't I'll just tell you that it's like the Where's Wally (or Where's Waldo for my American followers!) series. The book is made up of very detailed Star Wars images that are full of both random people and characters from the series. Each page gives you a list of characters to look for but also on every page you'll be able to find Chewie and several other wookiees.

This is a great stocking filler for Star Wars fans, I already know who I'm buying copies for, and it's fun trying to spot the different characters. Some are really easy to spot but there are others that I still haven't been able to find so it's not quite as easy as you expect it to be.

Review:
This is the second book in the Magical Film Projections range and if you're familiar with the previous book (J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World: Magical Film Projections: Creatures) then you'll know exactly what to expect from this one. In case you haven't come across these books before let me give you a brief overview. These books don't really include much reading material but they do contain 6 illustrations printed on clear plastic (along with a blank sheet for you to draw your own image on). The idea is to shine a torch on the plastic sheet to see the image projected onto your wall or ceiling. Kids can then use the sample text included or their imaginations to act out popular scenes from the books and movies.

In this case the scenes all relate to Patronus Charms so it includes: Professor Lupin protecting Harry from the Dementors on the Hogwarts Express; Harry learning how to produce a Patronus in class; the stag Patrous Harry creates when he travels back in time with Ron and Hermione; Hermione's Otter Patronus; Luna with her Hare Patronus; and finally Professor Snape with his Doe.

I had more success getting the images to project this time around (I was a little disappointed with the first book). I'm not sure if that's because I've had practice or whether these images just come up clearer but I found holding the torch further away from the book produces a better image. I still found the pictures went blurry if I tried to make them too large but I think kids will have a lot of fun playing with these books anyway. As a huge Potterhead and someone who has collected an unreasonable amount of HP merchandise this was a great addition to my shelves.

Review:
As a huge Harry Potter fan and someone who has spent a ridiculous amount of money on merchandise over the years I jumped at the chance to review J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World: Magical Film Projections: Creatures by Insight Editions. They have a fantastic range of products and I've loved the books and stationary I've bought previously so I had very high expectations for this.

The book contains illustrations of some of the most popular magical creatures from the Wizarding World from Dobby, Buckbeak & Fawkes from the Harry Potter books to Pickett, the Niffler and the Swooping Evil from Fantastic Beasts. These illustrations are all on clear plastic and have been designed to be projected onto a wall or the ceiling using a torch, something children are bound to have a lot of fun with. There is even a blank page where you can draw your own picture to project.

The blurb of the book suggests reading along and playing the part of the characters as they're projected onto the wall so I was expecting there to be more text than was actually included. Each image comes with a brief script between a couple of characters relevant to the image but it's literally no more than three lines each and often far less than that so it's not enough to keep you interested for long. Of course there is no limit to where your imagination can take you so kids can easily continue to act out further scenes from the books or movies or even make up their own.

My main disappointment was the quality of the images though. They look perfect when you look directly at the page but I spent absolutely ages playing with a torch projecting them onto the wall and unless you have the book really close to the wall and keep the image tiny they're all incredibly blurred. Projecting onto the ceiling is pretty much out if you want to be able to see any detail of the character and some of the images were completely unrecognisable even at a small distance.

I'm sure you can imagine how difficult it was to take photos of the projections on the wall but I've done my best to give you an idea what you can expect from the book. It's hard to say whether this book is worth the money or not. If you're a mad Harry Potter fan looking for something a bit different then this could hit the spot perfectly but I think it's a bit overpriced for what it is and if I'm honest I'm disappointed that the images are so blurred when projected.

If you'v ever enjoyed the Where's Wally? children's books and you're a fan of Star Wars then you're going to LOVE Where's the Wookie? It's exactly what you'd expect from a children's activity book in this style, it has some fabulous and very detailed cartoon images of very recognisable Star Wars locations and you have to search these double spread images for Chewbacca and 9 other characters from the movies (including Han Solo, the Millennium Falcon, Boba Fett & Bossk among others).

Some characters are fairly easy to find while others will take much longer (in fact there are a few I still haven't spotted!) but there is definitely hours of entertainment for all ages in the book.

Review: Drawing, Doodling and Colouring for Christmas

There’s lots to draw, doodle and colour in this creative book filled with wonderful Christmas scenes.

Includes an astonishing selection of activities, from jolly pictures to colour in to doodle-starters from which drawings can grow and grow and grow until they cover the whole page.

Doodlers can complete the scenes however they want and the craft paper quality pages are ideal for drawing on.

Review:
I may be well above the age range that this book is intended for but when I was offered a review copy of this book I jumped at the chance. There is something relaxing about letting your creative juices flow and I haven't been able to put this activity book down since it arrived on my doorstep. The book includes a fantastic range of pictures that you need to either colour in or draw / doodle on and I can guarantee there is something in there for everyone - santa, snowmen, reindeer, elves and even angels, if it makes you think of Christmas you'll find it in here somewhere.

You don't have to be an expert at drawing and the pictures will appeal to boys and girls of all ages and abilities. Everytime I flick through the pages I spot something different that makes me want to dive back in with my felt tip pens.  This really would make an idea christmas present or book to buy to entertain the whole family in the run up to Christmas. I love the fact that it even has an advent calendar for you to colour in each day (yes I have already coloured in the square for December the 1st!)

I couldn't review an activity book without actually giving it a try so here are a couple of before and after pictures.  First is a Christmas design that just needed to be coloured in.

This is a great quality book that will offer hours of entertainment for the whole family and I would highly recommend it for those cold snow filled afternoons in the run up to Christmas. It's a perfect way to keep the kids occupied while you're wrapping up the Christmas presents (and something you'll probably want to dip into yourself when they're tucked up in bed for the night).
