Born Wicked Blog Tour: Jessica Spotswood's Top 10 Supernatural Reads

To celebrate the UK publication of Born Wicked I'm thrilled to have Jessica Spotswood visiting the blog today to talk about her top 10 supernatural reads. Before I post the guest post let me give you a bit more information about the book:

Our mother was a witch too, but she hid it better. I miss her.

To me, the magic feels like a curse. According to the Brothers, it's devil-sent. Women who can do magic-they're either mad or wicked. So I will do everything in my power to protect myself and my sisters. Even if it means giving up my life - and my true love.

Because if the Brothers discover our secret, we're destined for the asylum, or prison . . . or death.

Everybody thinks Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they're witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship--or an early grave. Then Cate finds her mother's diary, and uncovers a secret that could spell her family's destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra. But if what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren't safe--not even from each other.

2. THE RAVEN BOYS by Maggie Stiefvater

3. THE NEAR WITCH by Victoria Schwab

4. CHANTRESS by Amy Butler Greenfield (comes out summer 2013)

5. PLAIN KATE by Erin Bow

6.THE SPRINGSWEET & THE VESPERTINE by Saundra Mitchell

7. KAT, INCORRIGIBLE & RENEGADE MAGIC by Stephanie Burgis (middle grade)

8. THE CAVENDISH HOME FOR BOYS & GIRLS by Claire LeGrand (middle grade)

9. THE GRAVEYARD BOOK by Neil Gaiman

10. STRANGER WITH MY FACE by Lois Duncan (a childhood favorite!)

********************

Thanks for such a fantastic list Jessica, I've heard great things about all of these books although I have to hold my hands up and confess that I haven't read any of them. I have quite a few of them on my to read pile though so I really must do something about that!

Have you already had the chance to read Born Wicked? If you have I'd love to know what you thought of it so leave me a link to your review in the comments. What do you think of Jessica's list? Would any of these books make your top 10?
