Review: Desire Unchained - Larissa Ione

UK Cover
Pleasure is their ultimate weapon...

Runa Wagner never meant to fall in love with the sexy stranger who seemed to know her every deepest desire. But she couldn't resist the unbelievable passion that burned between them, a passion that died when she discovered his betrayal and found herself forever changed. Now, determined to make Shade pay for the transformation that haunts her, Runa searches for him, only to be taken prisoner by his darkest enemy.

A Seminus Demon with a love-curse that threatens him with eternal torment, Shade hoped he'd seen the last of Runa and her irresistible charm. But when he wakes up in a dank dungeon chained next to an enraged and mysteriously powerful Runa, he realises that her effect on him is more dangerous than ever. As their captor casts a spell that bonds them as lifemates, Shade and Runa must fight for their lives and their hearts - or succumb to a madman's evil plans.

Review:
This is the second book in the Demonica series and although I would recommend reading the series in order to get the most of the ongoing background story I think you would be able to read this as a stand alone book without too much confusion.

When Shade wakes up to find himself chained in a dungeon he knows he's in trouble. Then he realises that his cell mate is his ex-girlfriend Runa, who he'd split up with the previous year after she found him in a rather compromising position. He isn't surprised that she's angry with him but he had no idea how much her life has changed since he last saw her. She has changed in ways he would never have expected.

Runa had her heart broken by Shade and all she wants is to get her revenge. She hadn't planned on meeting him when they were both in chains being held prisoner by a madman though. They are going to have to work together if they are going to escape from the Ghouls but it isn't going to be easy to put her feelings on hold. There is a thin line between love and hate and the more time they spend together the more the lines begin to blur. This is only made more complicated by Shade's curse which means falling in love could lead to the death of them both.

I loved the first book in the series Pleasure Unbound so had high hopes for Desire Unchained and it was even better than I was hoping for. I absolutely loved both Shade and Runa and the chemistry between them is amazing. Alongside the romance there is plenty of action and some fantastic plot twists and I loved getting to know more about some of the characters in the previous books - particularly Gem and Kynan.

If you're a fan of J.R. Ward & Lara Adrian then I'm sure you're going to love this series. It has everything you could ask for in a paranormal romance - scorching hot romance, characters you can't help but fall in love with and a fantastic plot line that means you won't be able to put the book down. Only 2 books in I know this is going to be one of my favourite series and I can't recommend it enough!

  1. Awesome review, Sarah! Ok, I think I will definitely give the first book a go now as you recommend it so highly. I'll have to see if I can find it next time I go book shopping. Cheers Sarah, and I'm glad you enjoyed it so much!

  2. Thank you for such an awesome review! I'm glad you're liking these books so much! Yay! Hope you like Wraith's book - he was SOOO much fun to write!

Jo, I saw in your comments about Pleasure Unbound that you were concerned about the sex. I feel like a moron saying this, but...you really might want to avoid my books. There really is more -- and more graphic -- sex in these books than in Lara Adrians'. It's not that I always write that way, but since the heroes in these books are sex demons...it kind of lends itself to the plot.

So...as idiotic as it sounds for an author to NOT recommend their own books...well, I just hate for you to be disappointed!

*hangs head in shame* I have total #promofail

    :)

  3. Well, I have to comment even though I probably over do it everywhere one of Larissa's books are being reviewed because I am a freak about these books. I LOVE THIS SERIES! Period. I love the characters, the world she has created and the sex makes my ears burn. Phewww, ok. I think that's good for now...now hurry up and read the other ones so I can come back and SQUUUUE some more.
    Great review, Sarah!

  4. Hi Jo, I love that you're interested in the series but I'm a little worried you're not going to like the sex as it is quite a major part of the series. I'd suggest trying the first book from the library & seeing how you get on. I hope you'll be pleasantly surprised & find you love it :o)

You just made my day by commenting Larissa!! :o) I love your comment to Jo - it is so nice that you care about your readers & don't want them to be disappointed. I absolutely love all the hot sex in the series but that isn't going to be to everyone's taste. For anyone who likes that kind of paranormal romance I would definitely recommend your series - it's right up there with BDB & Midnight Breed as far as I'm concerned :o)

Hey Mar I'm sooooo loving this series! I'm going to be on holiday next week but the rest of the series was the first thing that went into my suitcase so I'll get my reviews posted asap so you can come back & squee some more :o) While I'm away your homework will be to start the BDB series LMAO! I can't wait to see what you think of the brothers!!

  5. Aw, thanks, Sarah! To be put in a class with the Midnight Breeds and BDB is SUCH a huge compliment!

Jo...good idea about the library! I'd also suggest maybe even starting with book 3, Passion Unleashed. Strangely, I think it has fewer ACTUAL sex scenes in it than the first two, since the heroine has to stay a virgin or die. But there's still a lot of sensuality and sizzle. But it is a bit...gentler...than the other books, I think.

Mar, you haven't read the BDB books yet? OMG, you must! And Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld books! OMG, hot demons...

    Have a great vacation, Sarah!

  6. Hi Larissa - it was definitely a deserved compliment :o) I can't wait to read Wraith's story! I have a feeling I'm going to fall a little bit in love with him LOL.

I keep hearing about the Lords of the Underworld series - I might just have to buy them as a birthday present to myself!

I know Mar is planning on reading the BDB soon & I can't wait to see what she thinks of them :o)
