Review:
Diplomacy has never been Jax's biggest strength so she's relieved to have resigned from her role as Ambassador and trying to figure out what to do with her life next. Then March gets an offer from the Conglomerate that he can't refuse, they want him to recruit a military fleet for them and marshal their forces against the human-eating Morgut who are currently plaguing the most vulnerable human outposts in the far reaches of space. Jax jumps at the chance of being in the action again and is more than willing to start training the next generation of jumpers on navigating Grimspace. It's time for humanity to come out fighting and show the Morgut that we're not a race to be messed with.

After the slower pace of Doubleblind I was thrilled to be back in the thick of the action for Killbox. The universe has been in disarray since Jax helped bring down Farwan, as much as the corporation committed terrible atrocities they did have the manpower and ships required to keep the peace and protect the humans spread across the galaxy. Now pirates and privateers are making life difficult for honest traders and it's up to March and Jax to try and convince the mercenaries to join with them and fight for the conglomerate rather than against them. There is definitely a lot going on in this book and I flew through the pages desperately trying to figure out what would happen next.

I have to admit I was slightly disappointed by a few things though. Firstly I wasn't happy with the new barriers put in the way of Jax and March's relationship, I love them best when they're working together for a common goal and it's getting a little tired that in pretty much every book something comes between them and forces them apart. I was also upset that the core crew ended up spending much of their time apart from each other and I particularly missed Vel's character. I understand why he was needed elsewhere but I love him so much and I didn't like how isolated Jax became as her friends all went off in their own directions. I was extremely upset at Doc's actions too, I think his story could have been handled in a hundred other ways that wouldn't have annoyed me as much as what actually happened and it's going to take a lot to make me interested in forgiving him.

I don't want to sound too negative though because this was still a brilliant book and there was so much to love about it. Jax is her awesome self, I still love March in spite of his stupid choices, Dina and Hit are brilliant together, Constance is really coming into her own and I adore Vel. Throw in some familiar faces from the past and we really do have a brilliant central cast of characters. We get loads of action, plenty of danger and Jax sticking her neck out for the people she loves. I'm a little worried about what she did at the very end of the story and the book ends on a killer cliffhanger but that's okay because the entire series has been published so I'm not going to have to wait around for the next instalment. This is such a fun series and I can't wait to continue reading it!

Review:
Pippa DaCosta has done it again! A new world, a fabulously delicious anti-hero, an homicidal and slightly insane heroine and it all adds up to another book that you'll just want to get lost in!

There aren't many authors who can consistently come up with such exciting new worlds and series for their readers to play in but Pippa is one of the best. I'd kind of like to take a holiday inside her brain and go rooting around to see what else she has hiding in there! The Heartstone Thief is a fabulous story and one I'm really hoping is the start of a new series (please write more Pippa, please, please, please!). This is a world full of magic but not your nice wave-a-want-and-get-whatever-you-want magic, its a darker magic, one that demands a very high price. Be careful what you wish for because it might just come at a cost you weren't prepared to pay!

Curtis Vance is one messed up anti-hero with a dark and troubled past, he's a mercenary thief who doesn't think twice about taking from others as long as he's getting paid for his troubles. When he is approached by a mysterious sorceress he agrees to help her look for a hidden treasure but he completely ignores her warnings about the danger involved, after all there is no such thing as magic and the monsters she describes can't possibly exist. Well that was what he thought anyway, he plans to go along with her until he can steal her treasure out from under her nose but that backfires quite spectacularly when he finds himself caught up in something huge, something that could end up costing him everything.

I absolutely loved The Heartstone Thief, the characters are fantastic and full of surprises, the world is dark and twisted and its full of action and adventure. Pippa DaCosta takes us on a thrilling journey thats full of surprises and will leave you breathless. She definitely has another future hit on her hands with this one and I'm keeping everything crossed that she turns it into a series.

Review:
Untouchable is the eighth story in Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series and can be found in the Deep Kiss of Winter anthology (print or ebook) or on it's own as an audiobook. I read it as part of the anthology so I've not listened to the audio version and can't comment on that.

We've already met all of the Wroth brothers in previous books and we've seen hints of Murdoch and Dani's romance in the other brother's stories so I was really looking forward to spending more time with them. Unfortunately Untouchable just missed the mark a little for me and it was probably my least favourite story in the series so far.

Dani was a great character, she's half valkyrie and half ice fey which means she is incredibly sensitive to the heat and even touching another person causes severe burns to her skin. She loves her sisters but she desperately longs to be able to touch and be touched by another person. It was easy to feel sympathy for her and she's such a likeable character that you just want things to turn out well for her.

Murdoch on the other hand was a bit of an arse. He very quickly recognises Dani as his bride but he's absolutely adamant that he doesn't want to pursue things with her, the way he treats her was awful and I just felt so sorry for her that he kept walking away and abandoning her. There were good reasons for some of the problems in their relationship (the whole not being able to touch each other must have been incredibly frustrating!) but I felt like there was too much extra drama around that and it made it hard for me to enjoy their romance as much as I expected to.

This wasn't a bad book, I'm glad Dani has found her HEA and I'm still excited about continuing the series, but it definitely wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be.

Review:
I still can't quite believe that the epic Wheel of Time series is actually over! 15 books (don't forget the prologue!), 12,097 pages and over a year of reading (I read one book a month with a group of friends) and it's done. I actually put off reading A Memory of Light because I didn't want to reach the end but I'm so glad it went out on a high note. This series is absolutely huge and I was nervous about making the commitment to it last year but I have really enjoyed the journey that Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson have taken us on, and I can see why this is considered a classic.

I'm running out of words to use in praise of this series, just go back and read any of my other 14 reviews and it'll quickly become clear how much I've loved this world though. The characters have alternated between infuriating and amazing but the world is just so huge and detailed that it was very easy to get lost in. There have been a lot of highs and lows along the way but that is only to be expected in something so huge and the last four books have probably been my favourites in the whole series.

I'm not really going to say too much about the final instalment other than to confirm that it was a worthy addition to the series. There is just so much going on in this book, so many different plot threads that all needed to be tied together, so many characters who needed to get their final moments of glory, enemies to be destroyed and friendships to be celebrated. There were moments that I celebrated and others that broke my heart but overall I couldn't have been more happy with the ending. Is it perfect? Probably not but it came pretty close and overall this is a series I think every fantasy fan should read. I'm sad to say goodbye to these characters and if I'm honest I'm a little disappointed we didn't get an epilogue to show how our favourites are doing a few years down the line but I think we were given just enough that we can use our imagination for the rest.

I'm sad that Robert Jordan didn't get the chance to finish his epic masterpiece but I'm thankful that Brandon Sanderson was able to do such a brilliant job of the final few books and I'm glad fans weren't left with a million unanswered questions.
