“Hey, Cora,” he said, his gravelly morning voice so damn sexy.

“Hey,” she said, tilting her head back to look him in the eye. She wondered if she should get off him, but didn’t really want to.

Not making any move to get up, Slider just looked down at her. “How you feeling?”

“A lot better,” she said, hyperaware that her hand was lying on his chest. His heartbeat faintly registered against her palm. “Still achy and a little off, but better.”

“Good. You should probably take it easy today, though. Whatever that was isn’t likely out of your system yet.”

She nodded. “I will.”

Talking like this, their faces so close, felt so damn intimate that Cora could almost imagine that nothing existed outside of Slider’s bed. She almost didn’t want it to. Especially when his arm squeezed a little tighter around her shoulders and brought them just a little closer. Cora shifted into his embrace, pressing her chest totally flush against his die, and sliding her thigh up until—

Oh, hell. Until she felt the part of him she’d accidentally seen. And it was hard.

He sucked in a breath, and his hand clamped around his thigh. “Shit, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean—”

She placed her fingers loosely over his mouth. She didn’t want him to apologize. Or explain it away. Or push her away.

Cora knew she shouldn’t wan the things she did, but that didn’t make her desires go away. It felt good to want Slider, it made her feel normal, even if she was a little nervous. After what her father had done, that seemed like a victory she didn’t want to relinquish.

And, oh, now that she was touching his face, she really didn’t want to stop. His lips were full and soft under her fingers, his stubble was more ticklish than prickly, and his cheekbone was prominent under his skin.

He licked his lips, and her gaze latched on to the movement.

“Cora,” he rasped, his cock getting even harder against her thigh.

His arousal fueled her own, her hips tilting with the need for friction. The movement had her grinding herself against the firm muscle of his thigh and made both of them suck in a breath. His grip tightened on her everywhere. His arm holding her tighter yet to him, his hand pulling her thigh wider across him.

Her fingers returned to his mouth again, and traced across his lower lip. His tongue flicked out and swiped at her pointer finger, and Cora was instantly wet. Trembling with need and adrenaline and the fear that at any second, he would cut this off, Cora shifted ever so slowly, ever so slightly, bringing her face closer to his. He watched her like she was a tigress about to strike, but just as her mouth almost reached his, he flipped them and pinned her to the bed.

And Cora realized she had it all wrong. He’d been the feral animal about to attack all along.

Review:
Bound picks up the story a few weeks from where Cursed left off, Lucky, Jamie and Jinx are in a great place relationship wise but it all goes horribly wrong when Jinx gets kidnapped by their enemies. Thanks to their bond Lucky feels his pain as he is tortured and she's desperate to rescue him as quickly as possible. Jamie also wants to rescue him but as a Guardian he has an important role to play in protecting humanity and when Jinx is taken to the human realm the Guardians are ordered to stop whatever plan his kidnappers are working towards - even if the only way to do that is to kill Jinx. Even though Jamie promises her he'd never hurt Jinx Lucky finds herself struggling to trust him so she decides to work alone to bring Jinx safely home.

One of the things I've loved most about this series is that the author completely avoided the dreaded love triangle by making it clear from very early on that the two demon love interests were more than happy to share. I think this is the first time I've come across a triad relationship in urban fantasy but hopefully it won't be the last because that's definitely a solution I can get behind - I'd just like one that doesn't fade to black for the good bits please! I love how different the two guys are Jinx is the more playful teasing member of the group while Jamie is more sensitive and very caring but they're equally devoted to Lucky.

For her part Lucky has always seemed to care for both guys equally but that seemed to go a bit out of the window here and I ended up getting really annoyed with her for not trusting Jamie more. I get that she was desperate to rescue Jinx but Jamie would never do anything to hurt her and that includes letting the Guardians kill Jinx. It felt a bit manufactured to cause drama and because she refused to work with Jamie Lucky ended up making a lot of stupid decisions and getting herself into trouble because she'd go charging into situations with no back up. It made the story interesting for sure but I did want to shake some sense into her and I felt quite sorry for Jamie because it made him seem like the outsider in the relationship.

Overall I've really enjoyed this trilogy though, there's been lots of action and Lucky's guards have all been such brilliant characters. I'm going to miss all of them, even Mr Shenanigans and Mr Kerfuffle but especially Pyrites. I'm sad we're not going to get more stories about this group but I'll definitely be watching out for whatever Sue Tingey publishes next.

Review: The Good, The Bad and The Undead - Kim Harrison

During the last few months, former bounty-hunter Rachel Morgan has been rather busy. Having escaped relatively unscathed from her corrupt former employers, she's not only acquired a vampiric room-mate called Ivy, faced werewolf assassins and battled shape-shifting demons, but has also found the time to pick up a boyfriend (even if he is only human) and open her very own runner agency. Review:
I read the first few books in this series years ago but it was only when I started my reread recently that I remembered how much I enjoyed this world. Rachel isn't perfect but she's a great character because she's so flawed. She makes stupid mistakes and she's far too trusting but she's learning and I'm hoping she won't keep repeating the same errors over and over again. I'm enjoying seeing her learn more about the magic she is capable of, she came across as a fairly mediocre witch in the beginning but it looks like  she has more power than she realised. We learn a bit more about her background and a connection between her family and Trent's which I think is extremely interesting. Trent's character definitely has me intrigued, he has a bad side but I'm starting to wonder if he's not quite as evil as first suspected.

I think my main pet peeve in this book was her boyfriend Nick who, lets face it, is a bit of a wet blanket and I have absolutely zero idea what Rachel sees in him - especially considering all the lies and secrets he's keeping. The other thing that gets on my last nerve is her relationship with vampire Ivy. The two are supposed to be friends and business partners but their relationship presses all my buttons in the completely wrong way. I get that the author is trying to show that vampires are dangerous but Ivy crosses so many lines that it's just not funny. Their relationship feels abusive to me, there are many times Ivy either can't or won't take no for an answer and Rachel is constantly making excuses for her. What's even worse is that Rachel then blames herself for doing things that triggered Ivy's "vampire instincts" and that really rubs me up the wrong way. If you had a male character who acted the way Ivy does then I think a lot of people would be really angry about the way the situation was handled and it's probably the main thing that makes me reticent to continue the series.

Having said that there is a lot to love about these books so I'm going to push through and hope Ivy  either has a serious attitude adjustment or that someone stakes her and puts me out of my misery! Jenks and his family are brilliant, I already mentioned my love for Rachel and curiosity about Trent and I'm also kind of curious about Big Al too. He's got the better of Rachel every time they've met so far and she's in a whole heap of trouble because of that but I can't help wanting to see how she gets herself out of it.

Anyone who follows this blog will know I'm a HUGE fantasy fan so I wanted to spotlight some of the books that I'm really excited about reading but just haven't had time to get to yet. The Library of Fates by Aditi Khorana is one of them and it sounds fabulous so I really must get to it soon!

Review:
I left it too long after reading to write a comprehensive review of Rapture in Death but I'm really loving this series. Eve and Roarke are a great couple and I've enjoyed seeing their relationship grow stronger since the beginning of the series. I do find that the murder mysteries are usually a little easy to guess (I'd pegged the killer in this book within a couple of pages of meeting them) but unusually that doesn't stop my enjoyment of these books, especially when the murders are so creatively committed that most people mistake them for suicide.

I like the futuristic world, Eve and Roarke are both brilliant multilayered characters who have deep dark secrets that we're only starting to get to the bottom of. I love the way the darkness in their pasts helps to bond them together and it's really interesting seeing Eve adjust to life as Roarke's wife. She's actually pretty happy and secure in her relationship now which is great to see. Side characters like Peabody add plenty of humour with their snarky comments and I'm enjoying getting to know characters like Mavis, Dr Mira and Feeney.

I'm still intimidated by the number of books that are already published in this series but the more of them I read the more excited I am that I have so many left to get through.

Aly's Review:
This novella is the story of Lord Andrew Mabry, the brother of Lady Grace(When the Duke Was Wicked) and Alistair, Marquess of Rexton(An Affair with a Notorious Heiress) and the son of Frannie Darling and Sterling Mabry, the eighth Duke of Greystone(Surrender to the Devil), and Gina Hammersley, the sister of Tillie, Lady Landsdowne(When the Duke Was Wicked). It starts with the wedding of Rex and Tillie where the hero and heroine serve as best man and maid of honor.

Gina is an American who fell in love with Englend when she moved here for her sister's debut. She was only 11 when that happened and, being an heiress, her dream was to marry a Peer of the Realm. Her sister's scandal influenced her debut, she wasn't as sought after because of her, even though her dowry was vast. Everything started to change when her sister met Rexton. Gina started having the debut she envisioned as a child and she met Rexton's brother, Andrew. She was intrigued with him from the start, even though he wasn't an Earl, Marquess or Duke.

After her sister married, she moved with the Duke and Duchess of Greystone and started spending even more time with Andrew. They could talk about everything, they had fun together and, most importantly, they understood each other. Gina shared her wish for adventures so, Andrew thought it was a great idea to take her to a brothel(kid you not!), to teach her to play cards and many other "unfeminine" activities.

I loved how they interacted with each other. Andrew never lied to her or treated her like a 2nd class citizen because she was a woman. He had a bit of an inferiority complex thanks to a woman who only thought he was good for sex because he wasn't on the way of inheriting a title. That colored his view and he kept expecting Gina to treat him differently because of it. It never happened.

This was lovely novella, I enjoyed catching up with favorite characters and seeing Gina and Andrew get their HEA.

"I couldn't pass up the opportunity to speak with a woman of experience about what transpires between a man and woman. Tillie and I have never spoken of the details. Like you, I don't want to make a fool of myself the first time." 

"You could have asked me." 

"That would have been highly inappropriate." 

"Yet going to a brothel with me wasn't?" 

Her face warmed. She didn't think she could have gone with anyone else. She'd spoken true. She did trust him. And not only because he was Rex's brother, but because she sensed he would protect her at all costs. And he'd always shown her kindness. While his attention had seemed brotherly on the surface, she'd often felt an undercurrent of desire simmering through him. Or perhaps it was only wishful thinking on her part. He'd never done anything untoward. More's the pity.
